Jane, that was good of your friend. I would not say that Scooby was worn out, but she has ' fattened up ' a little. She loves milk, and I am sure she would not have got that in kennels.
If people want a dog, but not the bother of ' puppy training' end of breeding bitches are ideal. They do need abit of house training but it is soon sorted, and they are used to socialising with other dogs.

Marion, of course, that goes without saying. A nice red one, I think LOL

Scooby sounds lovely Julia.She can be happy now she doesn't have to have any more babies and enjoy life.My friend has a Border Terrier called Widget who she took on after Widge was no longer used for breeding.I remember my friend saying how worn out Widget was when she had her.Widge is now 13 and an old lady and is totally deaf but is still enjoying her life with my friend.
I'm sure you will great fun with young Scooby.

AnninGlos, the garden has been safe up to now, though I have seen paw prints in a new raised border I have put in. Hope you'r enjoying your holiday

ah your new dog sounds a little cracker Julia

We had a wire haired fox terrier when I was young. He was called Glen,a smashing dog but would fight with other dogs, often had a stookie & sock on one of his legs after being involved in a fracas.....but we loved him,he was a character! lol

She sounds lovely Julia. Is she OK in the garden though as I believe fox terriers love to dig!

Hi Chris, she was already named by the kennels so we sruck to it. She is called Scooby.
Yvonne, When I had the Airdales, they too were older dogs, both about 6 years old. Sadley, they both had cancer eventually, and I had to do the dirty deed, for their own sakes.
I was told by the kennels that Scooby's breed lives to a good age.

your new dog sounds lovely, well done to you for giving an older dog a new home. My dog was 5 when we got her and had a few 'bad habits' lol but with a bit of training and patience shes turned out a loving family pet, she will be 11 this year.

She sounds lovely Julia, but what is her name?

Some may remember my post on here at the end of last year, saying that, very,very sadly, I had had to have my Black Spaniel, Molly put to sleep.
Well, I now have a new dog. Having always favoured the Gun Dog class Labradors/Retrievers/Spaniel etc, for yomping up in the Peak District and in our local Country Park, I decided that, perhaps I was getting past that occupation. So, I looked to my second favourite class, Terriers. In the past I have had two Airdales, and been more than pleased with them. But they too, whilst not needing alot of exercise, despite being big dogs, seemed abit much to take on. So, I went back to the breeding kennels in Lincolnshire, I had the Airdales from, and was very lucky.
I have given a home to a Minature Wire Hair Fox Terrier, who like the Airdales, is an end of breeding bitch, in need of a home. She is about 6 years old, and after a couple of months in housetrained, almost. She is the most dinkiest, loving little dog I have ever had.
