my grey again...I'm going to let nature take its course!

last time the 'golden brown' came out near black..very Goth...

accordingly this time I went for a lighter shade 'darkest blonde'... and it can only be described as

ginger :( LOL

A friend of mine who is an ex-hairdresser has told me that the best colour to cover grey is 'light ash brown', the 'ash' bit is supposed to stop it going too brassy. Might be worth a try ?

Hi RR - stay 'natural' like me - I seem to be getting 'lighter' than my original blonde - not suprising over the last few months - but probably not suprising as both parents ended up with lovely heads of white hair.

Talk soon - love to you both! J*

Thanks Carolyn , if I do venture it again I'll try that :))

Hi J* , I should just go like my mum, hers went into lovely streaksof gold and silver. It's just that transition phase where it's not one thing or another lol...

D and I are off to Chester for a couple of days, to see mum's friend that lost her husband last year... I found her a first cousin once removed last year on Ancestry and he and his wife are going to be up there on holiday so I'm taking up all her tree details to compare notes. Hopefully having found some family will cheer friend up a little also :)

I used to work at the local college and allowed the students to try out one of those hair colours that last for about 6 washes.

My hair is a bit salt and pepper colour so the students tried a Pearl Beige.

None of us could tell the difference after it was applied.

One and only time i have tried to change the colour of my hair

I gave up years ago too much bother to keep
getting it done, so I've grown old and white

Have a good time in Chester, Rose and Dan, that's where my elusive Great Uncle Harry met his wife and ended up living in Birkenhead, but still can't find him or his 6? daughters! I understand he and my Great Grandfather, both Stonemasons, worked on Chester Cathedral as well as the Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool.

I was originally very dark haired but with lots of auburn, so used to colour my hair dark brown to cover the grey but one year after a trip to Malta, I came home with my hair colour changed to dark blonde due to the sun. After that I used blonde hair colours and now always go for Ash blonde or Beige Blond colours. They fade down into a colour that barely shows the roots but I haven't done my hair since last August so am pretty much all grey now (the colour I have been using for the last two years is one of those ten minute ones so it fades gradually rather than show a defined line when the roots start showing.)
If you have any red in your hair a colour will be different when it dries. On the odd occasion I have had my hair coloured at a salon they have not taken into account the red in my hair so have misjudged the stuff they used and I came out looking like Cilla Black a few years ago lol

Rose, maybe if you go to a training school where the cost is cheaper, they will give you highlights and lowlights so you will get a better efffect than an allover colour and it will not show the roots so much.

Last year I decide that having my silver gray hair dyed was a complete waste of time for two reasons. Each hairdresser that I went to said that I should leave it as it was because people came to them asking for the same coulour!!! and it was becoming an expensive outlay.
Now people ask me where did I get my hair done! I am about 25% silver gray and the rest is brown/black as the hairdressers told me and I am saving money!!

I dyed mine once...jet black. It was a permanant dye so when the roots came through it looked silly.(I'm dark brown) I used a dye reducer and ended up with orange roots lol. I was only 17/18yr but it put me off trying it again.

The grey is coming through but I hate to see roots and I'm not prepared to keep getting it done.So I'll just let it go the way it want to.

I did use a coloured mousse vo5,it took the edge of the grey but they dont do it anymore.

There’s nothing wrong with grey hair. Ask any bald person - me, for example!

I keep thinking about going natural but then I had/have dark long hair and get a little into the badger look and cave in to the dye again ..one day very soon I'll go grey

Hi,

I stopped colouring my hair with permanents because my scalp was coming off in bits..... Went to foils until I got over my vanity. I wanted to stay with coloured hair until I was over fifty but gave up.

I am now grey and loving it. Much cheaper at the hairdressers now too.

Every time I suggest letting my hair grow back to its natural...white, I get cries of outrage from friends and family. 'I am not just a piece of hair, you know' is my frosty repy, but I still keep on dyeing it! lolBC XX

I am 58. Hair is not too bad. I am naturally dark brown. Starting to go grey, mainly around my ears but underneath my main hair growth, if you know what I mean. I tend to tuck it behind my ears. I do dye it occasionally but try to stick with my natural colour. Did try an auburn dye once but my grey wings went bright orange .... not a good look. lol

The one thing I hate is my jowels. Would rather have the orange hair wings.

On a good day, with poor light, my specs on the window sill and my fingers spread between my eyes and my mouth area, I look quite good. pmsl.

Libby, I do agree, jowls are awful. I used to have a wonderfully long elegant neck but it's disguised now within this wobbly skin and squishyness that looks so ugly. It sort of crept on so I didn't notice but even if I manage to lose the weight the doc says needs to come off, it will just leave saggy baggy skin like a turkey neck!

I have to say that when I do colour my hair I get compliments and asked what colour I use so will make an effort to do it again very soon.

Thanks Rose, will send you the info on my missing Gt Uncle and his family. Would have been so much easier if he had produced at least one son, instead of all those daughters lol
