Before my G.Grandson is due to be born and was told early on going to be G,Grandmother again the end of the year from my Grandson this takes it up to 6 G,Grandchildren and 28 G,children

Grandaughter has been told by midwife if baby dos,nt come by the 28th they will have to do sweep ,she is due tomorrow but he is laying back to back ,and midwife said its going to be painful birth this is her first baby can anyone tell me what asweep is as never heard of it in my day

My daughter had our 1st grandchild last year and was offerered a sweep-like yourself i'd never heard of it!

Apparently the midwife does an internal examination, sweeping a finger around the cervix to seperate the membrane from around the baby and the cervix., supposed to stimulate the brain into starting labour- for over due mums.

My daughter didnt have it done- couldn't face it!- ended up having an emergency c section, so not sure it would have helped?!

Not sure of the wisdom of telling a new Mum that it's going to be painful. That is going to create even greater apprehension, I would have thought.

I hope all goes well for them. 2 of my 3 had unusual presentation, but were fine and healthy.
Third one was just a normal birth.

Thank you ladys Bridget have pm you hope he comes before the 28th ,Danni my G.daughter said midwife said he has long legs but then all my sons are over 6ft,i wish you all happy easter
