I have just read all the entries on here. In my view the UK has become a nanny State. No one, it seems to me is ever responsible for their actions.people who commit murder are treated with lenience, very few ever seem to complete their sentence, burglars are let off with a fine and a few words telling them not to be naughty again.Parents arevnot allowed to chastise their children, I do NOT mean they should beat their children, but a slap on their legs now and again is really not that bad!
I was shocked when my grandaughter now aged 10 told me when she was about 6 that the teachers toldvthe class thatbif they werecsmackedvby anyone including their parents they MUST tell the teacher!!

I am a Christian, not a preacher thow, and I ware a cross when I want to, and if I wanted to I would put a palm in my car........we decided to live in Spain, which is far from perfect but at least the fundamentals are to our liking, and being a Catholic country every possible feast day is a celebration, if you wish to be involved you are made welcom but if younwantbto stay away that is fine too....

I am ranting now so better stop.,

Just one morevpoint. My OH was a Imm.......n o....e and if you all new exactly how this service is manipulated you would be shocked. It nearly costbhim his life and in the end hebtook early retirement....thank goodness he did .....

I remember that one. Nothing for years. Just googled it. Apparenly a man was charged and due for trial June this year. Better not elaborate although it is common knowledge.

Tragic end for an 83 year old man who had served his country for many years.

Trouble is we do not have a deterrent. Respect and discipline appear to have flown out of the window in many areas.

Too much emphasis given to Health & Safety, PC., Human Rights and not enough common sense,

Ohter religions are allowed to display symbols of their religion but yet again 'the cross' is causing a problem e.g. van driver with a Palm Cross in his window.

A few years ago, an 83 year old man, Colonel Robert Riley Workman, was shot on his doorstep in Furneux Pelham which is a small village about 3 miles from where I live. I'm not sure if they have caught the murderer yet.

Dermot, I am beginning to wonder. LOL

Burton, do you mean the young immigrant lady. I have heard about this.

The first murder here, that I referrred to, was the day before the tsunami, so it was lost in the national press, though the Daily Mail did run with it for a while.
Then came the young lady down in Bristol murdered by the taxi driver.
But, listening to a professor on these things, on local radio, it is in part due to we being abit of a backwater.
It is just because you never think this sort of thing happens on you own doorstep, and when it does, it kind of nocks you for six.

Have you noticed that some murders become high profile and others are hardly reported in the news?

Recently in Burton we had a rather nasty murder, the dismembered body of a young girl was dumped in a large open area in the middle of town. Some young lads found the remains in a suitcase after they investigated a funny smell............ .......................This has not had a mention nationally, yet other, shall we say less gruesome murders make national headlines.

The trial is approaching its conclusion, I will let you know the outcome.

This is me just speaking of something on my mind.
In a small village, only about 4 miles from me, there has been 3 unconnected deaths in the last month, one a murder.. Now this morning on the local radio, they have reported on a murder, in a small town, some 4 miles in the other direction.
You just don't expect those sort of things to happen on your doorstep, particularly around this area. Of course there is always petty crimes, and only a couple of weeks ago 6 men were sentenced for 'coppering', but still, it takes alot of taking in.
