	My 11 year old TV packed up this afternoon so need to purchase a new one. Been doing a lot of comparison and am now a bit confused LOL Sorted out size, HD ready, Freeview. DVD etc but stuck on one question. Do I need one that is Digital signal type or not ? Would that need a new aerial ? Maureen

	Oh bother just found a site offering a Digital aerial installation for just under £150 So that rules that idea out as not prepared to pay that when the TV I want is under £150. Think I have just answered my problem

	I think all the tvs sold now are digital.

	Hi Chris, Quite a few are not digital. So can I opt for one that is not digital signal so I do not have to change the aerial. Is the picture that much better on a digital. Maureen

	Maureen, think it is because of this digital changeover coming. We had to buy two tvs recently and son has bought one - all digital. He got a 32" from Tesco for under £200 whilst I got new one, HD. Digital, DVD 26" for bedroom from there about 12 mths ago £179.

	Strange because I was looking at the ones from Tesco. If I have to get a new aerial as well then I think I will have to do without a TV then Was enjoying the snooker !!! Think a trip down the local TV shop and ask some questions about HD ready and digital signals will have to be done tomorrow Maureen

	Maureen - our aerial is up there since 1987 when the big storm damaged the old one! Son has a portable one!

	I have just - 15 minutes ago! - ordered a tv on line described as HD ready, but I never thought of needing a new aerial. It is to replace my old analogue one, but l have had intermittent problems with my Freeview set-top box and thought it was time to place it with a set that did both. We haven't lost the analogue transmissions here yet, but will shortly. Do I really have to replace my aerial instantly?

	depending on your reception area, will mean a new aerial or not! IF you have excellent signal quality with present setup then its likely that the present aerial will do. other than that it wiil need a high-gain wideband aerial..... look up freeview, problems and a moniker " briantist" on www.ukfreetv/fullstory.php?storyid=1107051300 that site will answer most reception queries...

	Four main channels are pretty good reception Can not get a good picture on Channel 5 which is usually fuzzy and barely viewable Switchover in my area is at the beginning of August Think I will ask the neighbours as they have not replaced their aerials. Missing the snooker already

	Bobtanian - thanks. Looks as if it is worth waiting to see the quality of digital reception when I install it, Analogue is pretty good here, but it was better on my Freeview settop box Glitter Baby - there are several settop Freeview boxes under £30. (My problem in fact was with the remote which the shop couldn't repair - the one button which did subtitles, necessary for the deaf like me)

	hi gb, we have 4 tvs in this house ranging from 10yrs old-3yrs old. we have an ariel in the loft with good reception on all tvs. when they switched of analogue a few months ago, i purchased 4 freeview boxes from c**p for £29.99 each. plugged them in and hey presto 18 channels. so if you already have an ariel with good reception, just buy a freeview box for each tv, much cheaper than replacing all tvs etc. florence

	I have a HD TV with built in Freeview in the bedroom, i didnt replace my current ariel with a digital one . We had the switch over last year. My TV has been fine perfect picture!!!

	Think I have cocked up LOL Ordered my new TV, from Tesco, which was delivered this morning. Did compare quite a few and choose one which against signal type did not mention digital. Guess what !!! It is digital and I can not view a lot of channels. Not a happy bunny.

	Well, I ordered mine from Asda which arrived this morning (£85 for a little 16" one) - reception on old aerial pretty good, and Freeview seems to have more channels than I had before on my old settop box, even though I was always having to re-install. It is said to have analogue channels but where I don't know! but I'm happy to use Freeview.
