Thanks to everyone for your replies. It was remiss of me to forget to include the area where they lived, They were in Bristol and none of the records indicate anyone near here,
The entry for their alleged parents as in my original post show Thomas and Elizabeth Newman living in Avon Street, Bristol and I recognize the names of the children that are listed in the same household, so it could be that they were just left off the census as Vera2010 suggests. Listed on the census were the parents and 5 children so, overcrowding may have been the reason.
The census only indicates 5 children and 5 still living.

My father and his sisters were not on the 1911 census. I was very disappointed and could not understand why. There was some suggestion that overcrowding in the home might have meant they were deliberately left off.
One sister was on the 1901.

I had hoped I would find them visiting Scotland in 1911 but not so either.

I think they were just missed off by their father.

Fingers crossed I'll still be around in 1921.

Have you looked at the alleged parents 1911 census image? Check how many children are counted as still living.

Searching freebmd for the birth reg for John Newman, there are the following records (4th Q 1908 - 1st Q 1909 in case it wasn't registered until the new year)

Births Dec 1908 (>99%)
Newman John Samford 4a 948
Newman John Chorlton 8c 883
Newman John Fulham 1a 190
Newman John George G Gloucester 6a 283
Newman John Green Chester Le S. 10a 644
Newman John Henry Thirsk 9d 425
Newman John William Stratford 6d 652

Births Mar 1909 (>99%)
Newman John Hartley W. 2c 194
Newman John Plympton 5b 177
Newman John Dudley Hendon 3a 358
Newman John George Chester le S. 10a 618
Newman John Henry Pontypridd 11a 715
Newman John Henry Cambridge 3b 402

If John Newman was his birth name, then one of these ought to be his and confirm his parents.

My grandfather, John Newman does not appear on the 1911 Census. I have a copy of a handwritten baptism record transcription from 1929 for his marriage that year. His alleged Date of Birth is noted as 14 December 1908.

His alleged parents (Thomas and Elizabeth), seem to appear in the census along with 5 children whose names I recognize from family members years ago. He also had a brother Isaac who is also not listed in the census.

Is it most likely that they were adopted or born out of wedlock?
If adopted, is there any chance of tracing back further as they are, of course, both deceased.
