I am struggling to find the parents of Samuel Davis born c1898. I know he lived in Newark from a very young age and he had a brother called Thomas Davis. He may have lived on Guildhall street at this time. There is a rumour in my family that he was born around the sheffield area and his mother came from Nottingham.
Samuel later Married Beatrice Lowe and died in 1969 but I am struggling to find his origins and can not see a name for his father on his marriage certificate .
Thank you for any help you can offer me in advance
A struggling family history enthusias x x

Thanks for your help. I do not know what his mother or father were called. I have been trying to narrow it down on the census. I believe his brother Thomas will be on teh 1911 census listed as his brother but not on the 1901 as we think he was born between 1902- 1910.
Samuel was a very secretive/ private man who didnt like to dwell on the past. this obviously doesnt help me now.
thank you once again

Sue in leeds and Choccy I can not thank you enough. You have given me so many new leads and information I have been struggling to get. this is fantastic. Im so excited to carry on now. thanks you so much. I will check these out and maybe start ordering some certificates.
I have found out this evening from an elderly relative that Thomas Davis was born 4th Septembr 1907 and his father was called Samuel Davis on his marriage certificate. I also Know that samuel snr died before 1919 and so the 1901 Whitmores seem like the likely couple as Thomas was 3 on the 1911 census and as he was born in the september of 1907 he would be 3 in april 1911.
Thank you once again x
