Dear Rimbaud, You have a case of hiccups. You may of course delete one of your enlightening messages which I understood except for that written all in capital letters. I make a point of never understanding capital letter sentences (except of course in extenuating circumstances).
Just go to the word delete next to the word edit on the message. Only you can do that to your message. It takes but a click and it is gone.
I am please you have fixed whatever it was which was wrong. It is most frustrating when IE does not work instantly.
My IT savvy offspring has suggested that I am far too impatient when it comes to diving into IE as soon as my computer boots. His advice is to switch it on, go make a cup of tea, then come back to it when it has settled down. This saves a good deal of wire wriggling and modem switching in order to make it work. I still think the wire wriggling works best, but then who am I to argue with an IT guru!!!
I must add that I am one who was taught correct punctuation before the advent of "dot". I hate dot but have discovered that whenever I write a link I must leave off the "." because it is often read as "dot". Your idea of a different use of the "dot" has merit.

Christ is risen!
No not a sermon. Just a traditional Russian greeting for today. The expected reply is “He is risen indeed”, but no hurry, as it won’t be Easter Sunday in Russia for a couple of weeks!
My apologies for not responding sooner. No, I had not fallen under a truck [for which, obviously, I also apologise], but I did take Good Friday and whatever the next day is called, off. Not repenting my sins but entertaining the grandchildren. Sins will now wait for the next Day of Atonement, when I will add to the usual list of Pride, Sloth and not using the recycling bin, not keeping up with my websites.
Point taken: we are all a bit keen on instant gratification now. When I telephone my long lost cousin and she doesn’t pick up, I feel it’s a bit off, and then start to worry in case something is wrong. I always pick up my own phone, in case someone thinks I’m dead, and I’ll then have to apologise all over again when they find I’m not.
To business: many thanks to all of you who responded. The replies were individually, and especially cumulatively, very helpful.
First the news that the IGI website was indeed working. Thank you Elizabeth and Tenerife Sun. It’s very difficult to tell whether or not that is the problem when one’s system refuses to connect with any website. Short of getting the telephone number in Salt Lake City and calling them, but you usually need the website to get the contact number! So having seen what a friendly helpful crowd there is on this bulletin board, it seemed like the simplest way of “calling a friend.”
Next, the dot after the org. Good guess Jiminy [it’s that thing about repentance, like Pinocchio I should always let you, as my conscience, be my guide], and I’d love to say that I’m not that stupid, except I am—but no, actually that dot was not part of the address I was using, it was just the full stop at the end of the sentence! You’ve spotted a serious problem there. The inventors of the web sort of messed up: you can’t tell bits of the address from punctuation! They should abolish the “.”, and use something else instead, like ¬ [what is that for, anyroad?]. At least the web could get rid of that http:// bit. It was invented at the outset by someone with too much time on their hands who thought it looked nice, but it doeSn’t apparently actually do anything!!
But I digress. I was NOT using the spot, but using Explorer to put the website address in automatically, and it always puts in the /. I’ve been doing it for yonks, and it always worked. Which is where the address … org.eng.default.asp came in very handy. That did work! Thanks George of Westbury.
So it’s not the website, it’s not my internet connexion, and it’s not really “me” either: it’s perishing Windows Explorer. It must have developed one of those clots in its brain, which can only be cleared [maybe] by deleting the whole browsing history [which very inconvenient!].
I fixed it my using Godzilla Firefox instead [er sorry, Mozilla].
So thanks everybody, and Happy Easter.

Hi JC, Do you see how easily the English language can be misunderstood. I did not make any assumptions. I read your post as querying why other posters had wasted Rimbaud's time by not answering correctly.
I am pleased you are courteous. And I am well pleased I did not let fly with an awful lot more criticism. My tongue is quite sore.
And no I make no excuses for a person who can not be bothered to reply when others have taken the time to answer a query. A few good reasons naturally spring to mind, eg hit by a truck, computer thrown across the room in frustration, or bolt of lightning ruined the cabling.
Whatever their reason I do apologise to you for misinterpreting your reply.

Are you suggesting that because Tenerife Sun, George oW, and Elizabeth did not identify the full stop at the end of the sentence as a "dot" they have wasted their and Rimbaud's time.
Any discussion, advice, communication on the boards is to be valued, even if it does not immediately solve the problem. When I read Rimbaud's query my initial reaction was he/she was clicking on a link in their favourites list and the IGI site not opening. It happens sometimes and for many different reasons.
Rimbaud please let us know if you solved your problem. As your post was almost a week ago it looks like you may have.

The IGI seems to have disappeared. For around 24 hours my search engine is reporting that it can't find http://www.familysearch.org.
Is this my system, or me, or has everyone got this problem?
Or does the LDS know something I don't?
