Drink Drivers who take a life !!!

Kitty, I am so sorry if my post offended you, and that you suffered such a loss.

No, not all cases are cut and dried, and there are people who react badly to even a small amount of alcohol. Myself included, but I don't drive now for that reason. But even allowing for the relatively few who have been tricked the courts deal mostly with deliberate drunk drivers who don't care, and won't accept that they are drunk. And we have to trust the courts to sentence them quickly and get the drunks off the roads before they cause any more damage.

off soapbox now,

Annina

I would have thought that anyone who knowingly drives a car while under the influence of alcohol, should,at the very least, forfiet his licence for life.

That, surely, would be a big incentive to be sensible? If you give them a life sentance, we have to keep them.

Kitty, it should definitely be the idiot who spiked his drink. It just goes to show what a bunch of gormless idiots there are out there. They probably thought it was funny. I wonder if they realised that their actions were the ones that caused the deaths of those 3 people. It also shows that it pays to protect your own drinks to avoid the slimbeballs who might want to spike them.

Huia.

What amazes me is........ , i know if i drove a car and was going to drink there is a chance, if i drove under the influence that i could kill someone. So why is it when people go out for a drink and are driving don't think the same???? Common sense isnt it??????

Georgina.
I don't think you are nasty at all, what I do think is that a person knows that they are going to drink and drive, the person killed didn't know that so cannot avoid being killed, the driver however could avoid driving under the influence.

I am a bit radical, but I'd lay them in the road and run a car at them (not over them). Then they can do their life sentence knowing what it was like.
I'd probably issue a similarly appropriate action to killers by knife and gun.
Nasty person, aren't I?

If someone dies as a result of a drunk/drugged driver then surely it is murder, one does not go out with an accidently loaded shot gun and accidently shoot someone????

There's a culture ( imo lol) that finds actions taken whilst under the influence of alchohol somehow ' unfortunate but hey he/she was drunk so it's not like it was deliberate, they wouldn't have done it if they were sober...'

and that applies whether it is an act of negligence ( as in traffic accidents) or an act of aggression ( as in "he only beats me up when he's had a skinful") or simply 'nastiness'.

It is no excuse for any of those things and I go for zero tolerance myself lol. If you drink, do it in a suitable, safe location...and if you're a 'nasty drunk' do it alone!
