Would my girls need to be checked

Several years ago I traced my neice who had been adopted at six weeks old.

She was able to have a good relationship with my sister and her siblings,who welcomed her into the family with open arms.

Unfortunately my sister died of cancer six years ago. My niece with whom I have little contact, rang me up out of the blue a couple of months ago and asked me if anyone in the family had died from cancer. Me being the oldest female relative left.

It was a shock to me while going through both sides of the family,to realise how many had died from cancer. She had to pass this info. on to her G.P.

It transpired that my neice had had a breast cancer scare and was referred to a genetics clinic. This week she sent me an e-mail to say the breast cancer gene does not run in the family.

Of course anyone can still get breast cancer, gene or no gene. The point of all this is that you can get genetic screening from your local hospital
if you have a family history of cancer, ask the G.P.it is your right!

Perhaps the GP will also suggest OH gets checked? Males can get breast cancer as well.

a small chance but why worry get it checked out ...With that amount a GP would suggest it anyway.

It wouldn't hurt to ask your doctor but I think you'll find that the doctor would be more concerned about your girls if you, your sisters, mother and grandmother had breast cancer.

Found out tonight that my OH's aunt has breast cancer.His other aunt also died of breast cancer.His gran also died of breast cancer and also her mum. Are my girls too far removed? We are from the male side. Annie
