My OH's father had the first dulux dog and now,as it is 50 years since they started with it and are making something of it,I searched for a photo we were supposed to have and couldn't find. However we did find a very small negative, and son was over and said he would get it done and send....well ...the saying goes...if you want something doing,do it yourself!
This was 2 weeks ago,but at last we have it.I want OH to get in touch with Dulux and see if they have any other pictures.
Apparently his Dad was out in the park with Shep and some men from Dulux got talking and thought it would soften up their brochures.
Now as OH hasn't been out of the house for almost 3 years and is mostly confined to his chair I try to get him interested in doing things on his laptop instead of watching TV all the time.
Will be interesting to know what they say.I have looked at the web site and he was not the most famous...that was No 2,but he was their dog for 8 years.

Was your father in laws dog Shepton Dash, he is mentioned on Wikipedia as being the original and being the Dulux dog for 8yrs.
Its a great piece of family history you have Brenda.

Yes Agatha,He was Shepton Dash.
We are amazed that we didn't find any promotional photos when we cleared up Dad's house, but OH's aunt was just the same and cleared out a lot of family photos before we could rescue them.OK people didn't take the amount of photos that are so easy to take now,but I'm glad I've had a lot of my family photos from over 100 years ago.

When our local B & Q opened, I was in the process of buying a kitchen to go in my house which was being done up. I went in the previously mentioned store and as an opening competition, they had Guess the weight of the Dulux dog. I got the right answer and won a black and white tv lol, which in 1989 was a bit mean, they could have made it a colour one.

Ah well, Liz, as my dad used to say, cheggars cant be boozers.

Did you get my email with the photos?

To those members who have a lot of old negatives, it is possible to buy a negative scanner so you can see what is on them and put them on your computer. I bought one about a year ago and have spent a lot of time scanning my parents old b&w negs, plus one which is a glas plate, and then my OH's and mine and am now working on our colour negs. It keeps me out of mischief.

Hello Brenda

I used to show OES, a few years ago and one or two of the show people i knew, used to do promotion work for Dulux, going into the larger paint and diy stores. I do believe the latest Dulux dog belongs to someone who used to show, i know she judged them at crufts a few years ago. I also believe a Fernville dog did the job for a while.

PS Brenda they are also getting 50 OES together to take a photo, to mark the 50 years.

Hi Spruce,
I have had a message from Dulux at last and am awaiting a reply from their marketing dept.
They are really beautiful dogs aren't they!
Do hope they have some other pictures of Shep as we'd like them to add to our family pictures.

Hello all

I 'am lucky i still have both my bobtails, Jade aged 14 and my Pudds aged 12 later on this year. They are such wounderful dogs. You are lucky to own a Dulux figure with the paint tin. These are so collectable and are very pricey,i keep looking at them when they come on e-bay but at around £500 to much for me. Brenda i will have a look in my OES books and mags to see if there is anything in them, when i get time. Will keep you posted.
