Been to daughters today to take belated Easter Eggs for the grt grandchildren.(OH has had cataract surgery 4 weeks ago so couldn't drive).
Grandson and his family came to see us and saw the latest on his hand. The stump has healed nicely .he has just above the first knuckle. it does still look swollen though.
The thumb whilst still has a scab on one side does have pink tissue and feeling in most of it BUT its bent inwards from the knuckle because the tendon is too short to allow the thumb to straighten up.he lost the nail too but this is now growing but its not sure if this will be viable once it gets to the end of the thumb ,it may be obstructive and have to be removed.
He sees the plastic surgeon again tomorrow to see what they can do about improving it if possible.
He has been told he can drive now but he doesnt have a great deal of grip in the hand as yet. he does daily exercises .
He cant write with the hand and notices there's many things he can no longer do cos the third finger isnt there as a steadying guide. He said it makes you realise how much work that actual finger complemented the other ones.

He feels although he could drive the lorry his job need other things like tying the load down and fiiting the side sheets etc that need both hands with GRIP to do so which he hasnt got yet

Thanks Yvonne. OH is still on the drops regime till Wednesday then he can get an eye test and new glasses .
Grandson said he will have to learn how to compensate for the loss of the finger but its the thumb thats going to be the potential long term problem

Am sure gson is getting lots of physio but when I smashed my wrists, plated screwed and wired, I was using playdough and physio said 'what a good idea'.

Sending continued good wishes for your grandson, a rough road but sounds like he has support and a positive attitude, both of which are helpful.

My mother and several other people I know had cataract surgery with excellent results, so thrilling for them. I hope your OH follows their example.
Blessings,
Mary
