Suggestions, please, on problems with Mozilla & GR

I still have IE6 loaded, and much prefer it for many things.

I also have Mozilla Firefox

Since the changes on GR, I have discovered that I need to use Mozilla for GR if I want to see the emoticons.

BUT posting messages takes ages ........... several minutes at least. I gave up on one posting yesterday when it got to 2 minutes and it was still "waiting for genes reunited".

Opening threads was fine yesterday, but very slow to non-existent today

With IE6, I cannot see emoticons although I can see the avatars, and everything works as fast as it always has done.

I have the same problem with slow loading on Mozilla with one other site that I use ............ that site is based in Austalia, and it has been known to take 10 minutes before a message is posted.

Mozilla works fine on other sites, such as ancestry, facebook, familytreeforum, shopping sites, etc etc etc.

Has anyone got any suggestions why I might have this problem on just 2 sites. while all other sites are fine.

Hi Sylvia

I use M Firefox for certain things ... find that if I clear my history cache it tends to run faster. Have you tried using Google Chrome, also use that and it is so so much better.

Hope you get it sorted soon ... I used Chrome for my piccie, can see everything here.

I swapped to Firefox to change my picture, then reverted back to chrome as its faster, I can see the avatars & emoticons on it too. :D

I use firefox all the time and rarely have a problem unless Genes itself is slow. Occasionally I have a problem opening messages from the GR site itself although no problem from my e mail notifier. :-)

Thanks guys!

I guess I should try Google Chrome then?!

although it still doesn't explain why Firefox is slow only on 2 out of about 10 sites!

Just tried entering here on Firefox, Sylvia ... like you, I couldn't see any emoticons, wasn't slow though. Sticking with Chrome lol. :-)

Different strokes -- I tried Chrome for about 10 minutes and hated it so much I removed it from my computer. ;)

In Firefox, be sure you have Adblock and Noscript.

I keep Noscript universally enabled and have to disable it for a lot of sites I go to in order to do stuff for work. I just allow them one by one (for instance, if I need something from an Australian govt site, I just allow it the first time and then that's done).

I did have to do a bit of twiddling with Noscript at GR at the beginning, to get what I wanted and bar the rest. Since getting the latest Firefox it has all been fine.

Enabling Adblock will stop you seeing all the atrocious advertising, but it may still slow the loading process. Use it too to block all extraneous graphics on the page, like the multicoloured banner ads for FriendsReunited and the rest along the top. Makes the page cleaner and saves space on each page you look at so it cuts the scrolling.

What's peeving me is that even with avatars blocked, there's still a big space under "send message" beside each post, so short posts take up 3 times as much monitor space as they need. Of course, Sylvia solves that by quadruple-spacing everything. XP

And my sig line doesn't help ... but how long I have longed to be able to do that ...

Hang on,

there seems to be a bit of a confusion.

I can see all avatars, and emoticons when on Firefox

In fact, I used Firefox to add my photo

It just is so flippin' slow to open threads, and especially to post messages.

It is when I am on IE6 that I cannot see the emoticans, either in text or below the Reply box. I can see the avatars.

Every site that I use on Firefox works normally except for GR, and the other site based in Australia (something called Groupbox)

Jaeny, I always have Adblock etc on ....... that isn't my problem.

My problem is the speed with which things don't work on Firefox

I can't see avatars because I've used Adblock to block them, along with all the other extraneous graphics. ;)

I know I do get the "waiting" and I'm also still getting the inbox error. But I just detest IE so much (I have 6 and I have no idea how to block graphics/ads with IE) that I wouldn't consider using it for anything other than to keep two gmail accounts open at once. Or two fb accounts. ;)

I've always just figured this site is a clunker, but if it's faster in IE -- I dunno!

That one posted really fast in Firefox. Here's me reading the thread in IE6 ... and I see avatars and dumfacethingies fine. Posting ...

edit -- seems about the same, dunno!
