The first problem is -- who the heck are you?! ;)

Excellent trick to be able to post without a username, but if you haven't picked one, you want to go to "my account" and fix that. If you are concerned about privacy, make sure that you say yes, you want to use your username when you send/receive private messages (i.e. so the system doesn't disclose your real name to anyone who clicks on your username) as I and many others do.

Now for your question -- I'm not sure what it is ...

I know you can "upload Gedcoms", I just don't have Gedcoms so I've never known what that entails. ;)

What link to whose tree do you mean? You can find other people who have a same name in their tree as you have by using the "Search Trees" button up at the top, even if you don't have a tree here.

But no one else will be able to find you -- and you won't get "hot matches" from the system showing other people with the same names -- if you don't put a tree here.

What I have is a tree with just my direct lines for the most part, not all my ancestors' siblings and so on. That way someone who actually shares my ancestors, say we are descended from different children of the same greatx2 grandparents, can find me.

Don't forget the most important thing on the boards -- click on "My threads" on the left to find threads you have started or posted in, to read replies.

I see there is now a name on your post!

Have you been back and read this thread?

It's always considered good form to reply to your replies. ;)

Well I would not get stressed!
Most people are really helpful if you just say please and thank you and only post queries on one board.
If you already have tree on software on your computer you can upload a gedcom, remember to look at your account settings if you don't want living people displayed.
Otherwise you can add one person at a time, which is ok if you want a basic tree with direct ancestors only.
Hope your research goes well.

If you click on family tree at the top and then on Gedcoms that might help you. You need to have your family tree on your PC or on a family tree programme to be able to upload it to Genes as a gedcom.

Please do not get stressed, it is not worth it, won't help you and won't help us.

By the way, welcome to the boards.

Doesn't look as though Victoria has returned to the thread then?

Well if she has been a member since 2005 and has only posted twice, maybe she doesn't come here often.
Come back, Victoria, wherever you are. :-)

Hi Victoria and welcome to the boards.
Try not to get too stressed, it will be fun once you get the hang of it!

You are looking rather lovely in your picture by the way.

Happy Researching..........PH.
