I'll bet that doesn't mean upgrade from standard (i.e. the cheapest sub that just lets you send PMs and post on boards, no records access). ;)

I might even bite, if it did!

Otherwise, I'll stick to my Ancestry. At least you can find things there even if they have *ed up the transcription. ;)

i could be wrong
but if you have a yearly membership
when the six monthly platinums runs out
you would only get a six monthly normal membership
not your usual old yearly one

so it might not be such a great deal after all
i hope i am wrong

I think you are right Joy, I remember reading that somewhere.

thanks for your replies ladies. this offer is only available to gold members, of which i am one. my gold membership is up for renewal in aug, but if i upgrade now,i think i will get it until nov?

re what you said ice about not being able to change back, i havent found that yet. better do a bit more research before i finally decide me thinks.

thanks again

ice, thanks for that. i have just been looking at the same myself and also re gold a/cs. it would appear that no new gold accounts are available anymore except for existing gold a/cs on automatic renewal.

so by offering me an upgrade to platinum for £10 is an exceptional offer. to anyone else say on std, an upgrade for them would be a lot more. i guess its one way reducing the amount of gold customers. ie natural wastage.

i have until the 17 may to make up my mind as thats when the offer expires, but as i do umpteen lookups and since i went gold last year, i have recouped my subs 3 times over.when i started on here, i was pay to view and £5 only lasted me a day or 2. if i had carried on that way, goodness knows how much i would be spending per 6 months.

i have got to that stage in my research where having unlimited acces to 1911 would really help me rather than ask others to do look ups on a regular basis.

thanks for all your comments and suggestions

Joan

I thought that there was no 12 month Standard membership now, except for those who have been members for a long and who renew without a break.

It is actually unclear on here .... it does give a price per month of £0.83 for a 12 month subscription, which equals £9.96. A 6 month subscription costs £2.50 per month, or £15 lump sum. Thus it does imply that there is a special 1 year sub

It is £9.95 for the 12 month for the "oldies".

and if you upgrade, then drop back to Standard, you lose your grandfathered status.

There are now only Standard and Platinum levels of paid memberships.

Platinum costs £80 for 12 months

I have no idea what the membership was for Gold ................. but I'm not sure that you are getting such a good deal

and if you ARE getting Platinum for £10, then the rst of us should be up in arms.

BTW ....... the other person says she was offered the "deal" for £15

are you certain that the offer is not £10 per month?

Hi Joan

I know you said Used to .

.......... but it is a little unclear as to whether the 12 month membership has been re-instated or not.

If not, then you could endanger your 12 month status by upgrading to Platinum, which does still exist.

I was intrigued by the huge difference between the so-called 12 month sub of £9.96 (£0.83 x 12) and the 6 month one ....................... £15 for 6 months translates to £30 per year

in other words, 3x the yearly sub!
