My mother was adopted so has her birth name and the new name she was given at the time of adoption and then her married name....how do I put them all on the family tree?

Thanks for the advice, I thought I might have to start a separate tree but found I can only put one family tree in.

Just put her in as two separate children of her adopted parents, is one way.

I have several name-shifters in my family back in the 1800s. My gr-father and his sister are in my tree twice, as separate children of the same parents, under both names they used. The sister's husband is in my tree twice, as two separate husbands of the same person, with the two names he used. Their children are all there twice, with the husband's two surnames. I also do it where somebody was known all their life by a middle name, in censuses for example. They're in the tree with their proper first name, but also separately with their middle name as their first name.

Since all you want is for somebody to find the name if they search trees, that works fine, even if it makes for a messy tree here.

But, what may be easier, and better if you want to track your mum's birth family: you actually can have two trees.

Sign up with a free account, separate from the one you're using here, and make the "other" tree the tree for that account.

With a free account, you can receive and reply to messages from other members, you just can't initiate contacts. But you can always do that with your paid account.
