Hi, ladylol
We have at times used watered down washing up liquid on our cherries. We always wash them before we eat them and they have been fine. We also put a grease band around the bottom of the cherry tree so ants cannot climb up the tree onto the fruit.

Dunno' about the taste,pusser,but ,after the catapillers have finished blowing bubbles ,they may stay away,and WILL stop the greenfly :D,Fred.

Think butter ,or marge ,would only feed the critters,but you could spray round the bottom of the trunk with Raid which we use round the outside vents of our house ,it kills the ants as soon as they touch it.
B & M do a cheaper spray on ant killer which also works very well,Fred. :-)

You can buy Grease Bands from most Garden Centres.or meybe even B&Q.**M**. ;-)
