Earthquake in Lorca the worst in Spain in 50 years. Sadly some loss of life and a lot of the lovely old buildings have collapsed.
Sending them my thoughts.

I don't think any of our members in Spain come from that area do they?

I read on the BBC news website this morning that in 1979 a scientist predicted an earthquake for Rome today, 11 May 2011. Wrong location, but correct date!!!!!

Dreadful shock for the people of Lorca, and very sad that people have died. I saw the pic of the church bell that came down near a reporter, apparently local children often gather clost by there and if it had happened 10 mintues later there would have been youngsters there so more deaths.

I wonder why so many earthquakes and similar tragedies happening so often now?

Thankyou Ann, to be honest I didn't know about it until afterwards, although it has been said that the tremors were felt fairly close by here, I can't say I noticed anything ...
mind we do tend to feel the vans shake when heavy traffic goes by or the grit lorries drop their backs so I probably wouldn't have noticed anyway :O
