Has anyone ever used an egg coddler?

I bought a couple of Royal worcester ones at the market yesterday on impulse...haven't a clue what i'm supposed to do with them lol...any tips please?

Many years ago as a student nurse I was shown how to coddle an egg in a tea cup :D
Cannot remember all details but think we buttered inside of cup, broke egg into it and stood cup in hot water. I cannot remember timing, how we covered cup, or if we kept water on the heat, but the result was a very lightly cooked egg. And I do remember tutor telling us there were such things as egg coddlers!!

Thanks Lyndi....never thought of using a teacup !!! lol.

I usually get my best cooking advice on here Prickly Holly. I find google is a mine field and generally end up being given conflicting advice x

Always did eggs this way when my children were small,then mixed pieces of buttered bread into it, I remember Mam making this for my breakfast....x

its like dry boiling or poaching. you cook the RAW egg in the buttered pot in a pan of water and can eat straight from it aswell ,,,,,,no shells to crunch on ,,}}}}}}}} dont forget to put the lid on the coddler.!

I had a go earlier ...cracked the egg into it...added salt and pepper, chives and a bit of grated cheese...popped it into the boiling water....checked on it from 6 mins onwards but it took nearer ten.... delicious. Very pleased with my impulse purchase.
