I have been given names by other people who have found them on other sites but I can't find them on Genes.Possibly my relations.They are Eliza Blank living with Father William East Retford Notts, Eliza Bland Christened
24th Sept 1847 Gedling father William mother Ann.I cannot find any Info
for my Gt grandmother Eliza Bland b 1836 Papplewick Notts.Always Nottingham stuff turns up Blank.Its utter rubbish genealogy in that area,every relevant must have been lost or destroyed down there.

Doesn't help when info isnt double checked before posting . There was i gaily looking for BLAND !!

Sorry Folks if I confused you.My Gt grandmother according to my grandfathers
birth certificate was Eliza Bland b 1836 Papplewick Notts .
I have her married to my Gt Grandfather George Spencer in Manchester in
1861 and 1871 I know she must have died between 1872 and 1877 because two daughters died in 1872 and George married again in 1877.
I have found no birth death or marriage certificates for Eliza,its been suggested by others that these Blank people could be hers because of
things being miss spelt or unreadable.
I am trying to biuld the bridge between Nottingham and Manchester and may be find her relations.

There are as lot of mis-transcriptions in the records, and sometimes even if you get back to the original it is difficult to read or ambiguous, and sometimes you can understand why the transcriber just plumped for the likely one if it happens to be instead of an unusual one - and you have to allow for the original census taker mishearing!

I am currently trying with a contact on Ancestry to disentangle the family of a Schollens, Scallion, Scullion, Scolin and Scollen! all of whom have close similarities. I am inclined to go for the first spelling, as it's on her marriage certificate in a catholic chapel and surely the priest who signed it would have known his parishioner's real name. The others are from censuses, except one my contact found on IGI which I haven't seen but even their transcribers aren't perfect. Not helped by the bride on the marriage certificate signing with an "X".

So you must always consider the possibilities of mis-spelling and hope for some independent evidence!
