Error in GR Transcription

Hi

Just wondered if anyone could help me, please?

I've just been trawlling through some census records and I noticed that the transcript of an entrant's address is wrong. And I mean *really* wrong. (It's not anyone in my own family tree, btw).

The transcript should read "Theydon Bois" but has been transcribed as "Heydon Boys". Now, the "Bois/Boys" bit is neither here nor there, as it might be that the person concerned didn't know how to spell it, but the actual "handwriting" on the original census record has been mis-interpreted on "Theydon" as it's clear it *should* be a "Th", if you know what you are reading, but it does actually look like a fancy capital 'H', and I'm wondering if that might severely hamper someone's research?

i know from experience that a transcribing error in a place name my own family tree research prevented me from progressing for years until I finally solved the "riddle", and I'm just wondering if I can stop someone else having the same problems?

I know fhat if you use FreeBMD there's an email link on most records to contact the transcriber, so is there something similar, here?

Thanks

Julie

If you ever transcribe yourself, you will understand that when you do so, you have to record what you see, not what you think it should say.

If for instance you say John recorded as a daughter, that is what you must transcribe, not correct it to 'son'.

As far as i know, GR dont own the census record, they re-direct you to another site, so its them you need to contact. (is it FMP?)
