I have seen several people, who are asking for help stating they are new and have just joined, but it says they have been a member since 2004

They might mean that they are new to the boards. Which if you look at their number of posts.......... is quite often the case.

Having said that, there may be a few who are just trying to pull the wool over our eyes!! lol

Perhaps they have had their tree on here since 2004 but have only just started to use the message boards. I was a member for about 18 months before I even realised that there were message boards!!

PH and Kath, thanks for that, yes I did wonder if that is what they meant, just didn't come across clear.

My thingy says I've been a member since July 2005.

But the earliest post you'll find from me on the boards is dated September 2007.

I'd done idle tree searches occasionally for two years, and even contacted a couple of distant cousins I found that way.

But I never even realized there were discussion boards!

I think that's the explanation for all the "newbie" posters. ;)

Mine says 2009 but I became a member for the first time in 2010 when and I posted at the same time.

One can be a member of the site without paying and then become a paying member of the site; the date of joining would be when one first joined, whether or not a paying one.

Joy

I had never been on the site until 2010 and that was after I Googled and got a Genes query for one of my relatives. I wonder if it has anything to do with FMP. I was with them for a short period in 2009.

I'm not at all bothered however what the date says.

Joy you have answered my query, that now makes complete sense, thanks.
