OK That is good enough for me, don't think I'll bother.

I am half way through the Child Taker (now looking forward to the 'abrupt and wooley end') lol Susan.

At first I thought that I would give up before I finished it as some of the wording re child abduction was a bit too descriptive for me. Also I couldn't see the link between the two different parts of the world that jumped from place to place with alternate chapters. Eventually in about chapter 13 all became obvious.

I don't know that I would rush to download another book by Conrad Jones.

I will wait for a second opinion before downloading. Not been reading my kindle books, of which I have many, as I have been trying to reduce the number of books on the book shelves first. But away next week so the Kindle will be in use again.

the Child Taker

Well, there I was, reading away, completely engrossed, thinking how exciting, and after counting the times the word Past had been written instead of passed......It came to a very abrupt end with a very wooly ending.....tsk.......unless there is to be a sequel ......

Did anyone else read it?

Rabbit Stew and a Penny or Two: A Gypsy Family's Hard Times and Happy Times on the Road in the 1950s
£4-49

Product Description

Born on a Somerset pea-field in 1941, the second of eight children in a Romani family, Maggie Smith-Bendell has lived through the years of greatest change in the travelling community’s long history. As a child, Maggie rode and slept in a horse-drawn wagon, picked hops and flowers, and sat beside her father’s campfire on ancient verges, poor but free to roam. As the twentieth century progressed, common land was fenced off and the traditional ways disappeared. Eventually Maggie married a house-dweller and tried to settle for bricks and mortar, but she never lost the restless spirit, the deep love of the land and the gift for storytelling that were her Romani inheritance. Maggie’s story is one of hardship and prejudice, but also, unforgettably, it recalls the glories of the travelling life, in the absolute safety of a loyal and loving family.

About the Author

Maggie Smith-Bendell runs an advisory service for Gypsies and Travellers, and campaigns for the rights of Gypsies.

Author Philip Whiteland

Steady Past Your Granny's

£1-14

A wry look at growing up in the 1950s and 1960s that is sure to guarantee a smile on every page.

The perfect present for the "baby-boomer" in your life. If you, or someone you love, remembers the sheer horror of ballroom dancing at school, the`flying wedge' football formation (one person actually kicking the ball, the rest of the team running after him) or chewing gum machines that gave an extra packet every fourth turn, then this book is for you.

Phil Whiteland is well known for his very funny insights into growing up in the 1950s and beyond, from the 'Yesterday Today' supplement and 'Bygones' column of the DerbyTelegraph and the 'times gone by' magazine from the Burton Mail. Other readers may recognise Philip's particular brand of humour from his articles in the online newspaper 'Mature Times'. If you're new to the world of Phil Whiteland, this book is a great place to start.
