I agree, the lottery system was a stupid idea. I would have thought that family and friends of the participants should have had the first call on tickets, then everyone else on a first-come first-served basis, just like most other concerts or sporting events.

I hear Wimbledon tickets are issued through a lottery, maybe that's where they got the idea?

No tickets for family we had to apply through the web site. I could only afford to go for the lower priced tickets, as i guess most people could. But i will watch on tv, at least in London the times of the swimmimg will be our time. Not like in Bejing where we had to get up at 2 in the morning to watch. The package deals that will be on sale are well out of our budget.

I think I noticed an ad the other day for a competition through Fairy Washing Up liquid? where you could win tickets so how will they get them to pass on?

Glad I am not that interested, wouldn't have had the money anyway but a shame for all those who wanted tickets to watch family members compete or just because they love a particular sport.

That's a real shame Spruce. But if she does qualify, won't she be given tickets for family? Perhaps not as many as she may wish, but.........?

I personally didn't want any - but it all seems so unfair.
A man on the news summed it up.
He applied for £30,000 worth of tickets and got £10,000 worth-he wondered why everyone didn't apply for tickets just over what they could afford,knowing they probably wouldn't get them all - the way he did!!!
Perhaps he should try living in the real world.

No i didn't get any tickets, i was hoping to see a member of my family swim. Though qualifing for swimming in the games is not until March or April next year, so if she does qualify we will not have the chance to see her.

Well there seem to be a few cross people on here!

We applied - and paid for - three sets of tickets because we had been lead to believe that we were in a lottery and so wouldn't get everything we applied for. And we didn't.

As far as we know we have got a third of the tickets , although at this stage we don't know which they are.

I know of friends who spent much more than I did applying. But thank heavens we didn't get them all, which potentially, we could have, because it is a lot of money!

There will be an election in 2012 for Mayor of London so the newly elected Mayor, whether Boris or another will be the one who gets the freebie tickets.

Listening to Radio 4 this morning, the bloke who does the sport, did what was suggested and bid for more events than he wanted to go to - and got tickets for all/most of them - at a cost of £11,000!!!
Apparently you're not meant to sell them - but if his experience is typical,there will be many people not getting tickets, because those with the ability/money to put in multiple bids will have grabbed most, and I bet there will be amateur touts everywhere!!

Well, like him or loathe him, Boris *is* the Mayor of London! lol.

We're really surprised he wasn't given one or possibly 2 complimentary tickets, and you'd have thought that in his official capacity he (or the incumbent Mayor ) would be at the Opening Ceremony.

If anyone applied and was successful, well done. Hope you have a great time and have lots of good 'memories' to pass on to your family.

Don't know of anyone who applied for tickets, but Boris isn't happy he didn't get any, and was miffed because he had to apply for them like anyone else. What makes HIM so special lol

Of the three events I applied for, i seem to have just the one, which is fine. It's either equestrian eventing or equestrian show-jumping ( youngest used to ride for a bit and is at Greenwich uni which is where these take place. Well, not in the uni, obviously! In Greenwich Park.

The way they allocated them seems to be a farce. In Germany you just went into the travel agents and bought them there and then. First come first served.

Trust this county, the host country no less, to make a complete and utter mess of it all
