Australia -- born on January 26 -- the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788 and the proclamation at that time of British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of New Holland.
Aquarius
Aquarius witnesses to our membership of the human race, and to the importance of the creative activity of humanity.
Following Capricorn, which emphasises the importance of the proper functioning of society, and the need to be a responsible member thereof, Aquarius may be seen as observing the boundaries and structures that people have made for themselves in order to live satisfactorily with each other, and noticing that people can be trapped therein, disabling them from living a fully human life unfettered by duties and responsibilities.
Therefore, Aquarius aims to show how to live within society without being bound by it in such a way as to stifle human creative activity.
As an air sign, it does this by having an ideal about how life for humanity ought to be - but like all ideals, it has to deal with reality in terms of what human beings are really like, rather than simply how the mind considers they ought to be like, and this can lead to some painful lessons in life..

So ... Cancer for Canada, but I still say Virgo rising!
Cancer applies to the USA too, of course -- July 4.
Cancer
The sign of Cancer witnesses to the importance of a sense of belonging in human life. It is, more than any other, the sign of home and family, but, fortunately in view of the conditions of modern life, not necessarily home and family in a literal sense.
Having the Sun in Cancer, what you are striving for, whether consciously or not, is a sense that, whatever your circumstances, there is a place on earth, or an experience, or a group of people, or an interest, which can give you a sense of belonging, where you can feel at home and that you are a member of a family.
The sign of Cancer also witnesses to the importance of roots, or origins, of considering the present in relation to the past. Many people feel they can ignore the past, yet feel something is lacking from their lives. Cancerians enrich the present by honouring its links to history.
Virgo
Every sign rules a part of the body, Virgo the intestines. This provides a vital clue as to the function of Virgo within the whole of humanity.
Think of what the intestines do. They take in energy in the form of food, and break it down into its constituent parts. Then they analyse the components and see how they can be made to be useful. Perhaps some will be combined with others, some will be stored for later use, and some will be eliminated as being useless.
Virgo takes in substance and discriminates between what is useful and what isn't, and works with it so that it may be more useful still, and thus be of service to humanity. That is the key to it all - service.

So England / the UK is/are Capricorn, doubled.
One description, first one I clicked on, honest :
"The Capricorn personality witnesses to the importance of the social order in which one lives, its proper functioning, and the personal fulfilment which can be found through finding ones true place within it."
Ha! Well there ya go. :-D

Heh, I wasn't thinking of it that way. It's just that all those personality characteristics add up to Virgo, it seemed to me.
So Canada is actually a Cancer (July 1, 1867).
We must have Virgo rising! Such pragmatic, punctual, precise people as we plainly are. :-D

England (based on the time when William the Conqueror was crowned) is Capricorn.
The United Kingdom ( 1 January 1801) is also Capricorn.

Okay, changed the heading because that's more fun. :-D
This is just the sort of thing that we Canadians find giggleworthy.
It seems to be a private consulting company's advice for people who find themselves working with Canadians.
It reads somewhat like 1950s advice to housewives on how to keep their husbands happy.
:-D
But still, I thought it might come in handy for some of my colleagues here! It isn't all wrong by any means, just kinda funny.

It starts out thus:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Working with the Canadians
Be prepared to encounter objective, unemotional thinkers and people who are calm and tolerant but who are competitive and who believe in achievement gained through merit.
A well-informed people, Canadians are open to reasonable dialogue and will not be afraid to engage in spirited arguments as to the relative merits of a subject and will not respond well to what they believe is undue `hype'.
Little attention is paid to feelings or exaggerated or overblown behaviour or expansive gestures, although French Canadians may be more excitable or volatile than their English-speaking countrymen.
Canadians are known as being low-key, honest and modest and pride themselves on being more understated and more measured than their neighbours in the United States.
They are methodical in their habits, moderate and conservative in their views. Proud of their multicultural heritage, they are egalitarian in their approach and beliefs. Although they enjoy the rewards of success, they are usually not pretentious and ostentatious displays of wealth are not admired.
Canadians are well-informed about international affairs and will expect visitors to have some knowledge of their country - its physical characteristics, history and politics. They do not appreciate being mistaken for Americans.
The Essentials (10 Key Tips)
1. Maintain a friendly but polite attitude. In general terms, Canadians are slightly reserved.
2. Make sure you are well informed and knowledgeable about the details of your proposals. Thoroughness is valued, evasive answers are not. Expect a polite, but probing debate.
3. Be careful to avoid inflated statements about your company or your products. Discussion and demeanor in meetings should be calm and measured.
4. Be aware that Canadians are tolerant and reasonable and will expect and admire these attributes in others.
5. Avoid making any statement that conveys the idea that Canadians are just like Americans, as this is likely to cause a strong reaction.
6. Always be approachable and accessible, and do what you say you do.
7. Always be punctual for meetings. Canadians are pragmatic and do not like to waste time unnecessarily.
8. Make sure to translate your business materials into French in French- speaking areas.
9. Show great respect for diversity. Canada is one of the world's most multicultural countries.
10. Recognise that a person's authority in Canada is related to his or her position and responsibility, not name, social status, class, or gender.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Actually, it's a bit like reading my horoscope.
Canada is a Virgo!
So what zodiac sign is your country? :-D
