it crossed my mind too.If someone has had to flee from an abusive relationship for example, then they definitely wouldn't want to be tracked down.

I too think it is huge invasion of privacy. Even though the information is in the public domain, it is one thing to find it for oneself and quite another to have it served up to you on a plate.

It also worrys me that nobody can tell the motives of the search and as such think that any contact should be with an intermediatory service similar to that operated by the Salvation Army Family Tracing service. By putting in this interim then only genuine searcher would wish to proceed and would also give a chance to the person being sought to come to terms with it.

There has been oodles and oodles of discussion on this topic on the Suggestions board , Facebook and, occasionally, on the LR board itself.

Many of us are unhappy about this board and feel it needs more regulating. etc.etc.

Yes I would agree with you..mind you I suppose tehir argument would be that if they are found that people have only used what is available in the public domain.

Hope that nothing bad ever happens...

I just wondered at the advisability of Genes promoting such a board which could have adverse effects for someone not wanting to be found.

I know it has been done for years on the boards, but GR, as a business, May be advocating something that is potentially harmful.....It only takes one.

I don't see how anyone can every know if someone's motives are genuine when you can only read what they want, and you don't know them personally..

I am sure that there are loads of genuine people using the site, and I would not want to discourage people but you just never know.

This has always been one of my hesitations about locating living people who may for very good reasons not want to be found, or may be unaware that there are ways of finding them using the internet..

ESPECIALLY when people are looking for young children it is very worrying.

Just my thoughts also!

Just a thought, but how does one know if a person posting a request to find a living relative is a genuine relative, or indeed if the other person wants to be found. I personally would not like someone phoning me out of the blue, or be given my address without my permission.

What if the person requesting details has ulterior motives.

As I said....just a thought
