General Chat

PleaseGR can we have a board for people wanting to ask others about problems with computers/printers etc.
Over the years i have had several problems, to some it might only seem worthy of being put on the general chat board, but when you are tearing your hair out not knowing what to do - and its stopping you doing your family tree it is so frustrating. there are so many kind and clever people on here willing to give idiots like me a helping hand its my first port of call with a problem, and i admit, i , have used the tips board several times, its probably because of people like me they have been changes (i'll say it before someone else does) but as i only use my computer for geneology
so a problem with computer is a problem with geneology!! i know thats stretching it a bit!! ;-)

Isn't the Help Clinic of any use in these situations. I needed help every time I came on line when I first started and received plenty from peeps on all boards, from simple explanations of how thing were done to being pointed in the right direction, being a self taught idiot silver surfer I hadn't a clue and since the changes thought this new board was for that purpose. still :-S

Hi Maureen- I am sure this board will be ok for asking about help with computers, it is for general chat. No doubt if I have said the wrong thing somebody will be there to shoot me down.lol -jl

Maureen this is a general board so ask away about pc's ..many still use it as a genealogy board and get answered. It takes time for new things to settle in.

Help Clinic isn't a board anymore, and when it was, it wouldn't have been the place to ask about computers. ;)

General Chat seems a good place for computer questions, no?

Uzzi, many may still use General Chat for genealogy questions, but they absolutely should not -- they are less likely to get the most help, and they are more likely to be duplicating their posts on other boards and using up other members' time pointlessly.

GR staff have assured us that they are working on a way for them to be able to transfer posts from the wrong board to the right board, and they hope to do that soon.

Meanwhile, I've been known to post about and answer posts about computers on Chat here, and it seems people do get help when they do that.

Janet, your, er, concern is noted, of course. Wouldn't have wanted to answer a genuine post without a disingenuous dig now, would we?

(I'm sure you've seen the new post pinned at the top of the Genealogy Chat board! :-D )
