Did you know the sytem has changed when you ring about telephone faults??
A few months ago our phone was playing up, the engineer called out (after we understood that if the fault was ours we would have to pay over £130.00 )...he found that it was BT's fault and had to go to the exchange in town to sort it....well its started playing up again and this time l had to do the tests before an engineer can be called out....
l'm just so pleased no one was recording me on video.....there l was on me hands and knees, l'm very ungainly now, dog getting in the way cause he's not sure whats going on, trying to leaver meself up by hanging onto the hoover which did'nt appreciate it, the wires came off the thingy and got in a rite mess. l could hear the BT lady saying 'are you ok'....lol....l had to unscrew the 2 screws where the connectors go in and then reconnect the connector fingies again and dial a number to see if the fault was still there.....l could'nt see what l was doing, pointless getting a torch cause the dogs goes mad at the light!!!! could'nt even find a screw driver but found a knife that fitted..... anyways it appears it is their fault so they are coming on Wednesday:o))

Yup, At one point BT had me with all my computer equipment piled up against the front door because that was where the main point was to test it. No the problem is with my equipment they said, I changed to another Broadband supplier and useing the same BT line and same computer problem solved!
What amuses me is it's not too long ago BT would practically threaten you with a public flogging if you tampered with their box. Now it seems they would almost like you to shin up the telegraph pole and fix it for them given half a chance!
Hope he fixes it ok on Wednesday for you. You could ask BT where the payment is for the work you did for them, as a workman you should at least get tea and biscuits! ;-)
Best wishes , Mayfield

Jude I reckon you did very well. Be thankful that you are not on cable when the television goes down. Then they want you to disconnect everything completely, the only problem is that if you do as they say, then you also disconnect the land-line. Such a brilliant way to get rid of a customer.-jl

Hello Mayfield and Janet
What a pularver is'nt it, l managed to do as asked, but l'm sure some would'nt, l would omagine anyone with difficulties getting down on the floor would have to have assistance.
Apparently Openreach now serves all the other providers, not just BT, hence alot more customers and probably not enough engineers!!
She suggested l did'nt use my phone to call out and to get someone elses and plug and try it, obviously cancel appmt if it does'nt happen to that phone. Will get me pc man in later to try that:o))

Well I suppose they are just trying to save you an unneccessary charge for a simple fault.
I called BT out several years ago to check my non existant internet connection which I was sure was down to BT wiring outside the building or the old connector box. It turned out to be my extension cable which had kinked under the floorboard, resulting in a £50.00 callout bill, much to the consternation of the engineer. He did however leave us some new cable, clips and a new connection box all at no extra charge ;) which was helpful.
The moral of this story............ check all your wiring and every connector before calling out the engineers and
I've even taken the computer out to the connection box entry point at our window to make sure that there are no problems before calling up helplines.

What suprised me with BT was when my line was out of action for a couple of days they transfered my calls through to my mobile and free of charge.

I recently "lost" my Broadband connection and contacted BT and was transferred to the call centre-in India !
After 1 hour and 30 minuteson the pnone,,starting with "level 1 through to level 3" with me following directions from the extremely patient Indian gentlemen on the other end,it was decided the fault was bewteen my computer and the local exchange !
I also had to crawl around the floor to check the plugs at the back of the box while trying to keep hold of the phone ,watch the screen and click as ordered !!
Clever stuff though !
An engineer came and it was the modem-I now have a nice new one-no charge !!

Back in the olden days ... I had a dial phone on the wall.
One day I was dialing a number, and the dial came off. This left behind the chrome thingy that was at the end of all the numbers on the dial, to keep the dial from going around and around once it got to "0".
So I grabbed hold of the thingy and pushed it all the way around, thus dialing "0" for Operator.
And this being the olden days, an operator answered.
I asked whether she could connect me with repair services, please, this also being the days when the phone company owned the phones, and actually repaired them.
In a helpful tone, she said ...
"You can dial that yourself."
We both had a giggle at my answer.
And I have just got the Error message twice here, so I'll try again ... life was so much easier when you could dial "0" for Operator ...
