Jiminy C if that is true then most of my freezer food should not be in there. I freeze fresh meat, there is no warning to say you can't. The only warning I ever see is on fish sometimes when it says not suitable for freezing previously frozen. And what about the whole/half lambs sold for the freezer etc, freah meat that would have a use by date if cut up and sold in the burchers, no different.

I have found that unless the freezer malfunctions.......the food will be Ok if cooked properly,I never throw any thing out.
also food will be not at its best ness if its very old, but still edible,If cooked right........
well thats not really true........LOL I DO chuck out the frost after Ive scraped it off the sides of the freezer, although, technically speaking.....it's condensed water vapour........distilled water.......

Yes, we do do that Stan but I'd still like to know which pack of salmon, stewing steak etc I should eat first. I don't think there would be any cream cakes Joy, they wouldn't get that far. I did use some tomatoes from the year before last yesterday. Shoved in there when we were going away and had a glut. Lurking at the back they were. I made some rather nice tomato and basil soup.

You must have read my mind anninglos, My oh goes to the supermarket in the middle of the night and I never know what he has bought as he just stuffs it in the freezer. This ps me off because try as I might I cannot run it down to clean (too much stuff to get in the cool bags). He will have a run on fish 'til there is so much it's ridiculus, sausage by the ton etc etc. I never know which is the latest because he stuffs it anywhere( I have a meat shelf, a fish shelf and a veg shelf) it's only a small freezer. It's the same with the fridge he stuffs things in pushing the ones that need using first to the back. There are always packs of mini scotch eggs and cocktail sausages for his dog to tak his pills with but no room for the food I like. In the cellar there is just enough room for me to get 2 rows of tins all th other shelves are taken up with masses of tinned fruit, soup, jam and sardines by the bucket load, most of which I have to chuck yearly as he never eats them ( but they were cheap) so he has to buy them but at least they have a year date on them. Had me moan, thanks for that. Elaine. :-S

Yes, it would be helpful wouldn't it? I have stuff in our freezer that I am sure is older than a few months. Well I should sort it out and use or throw some dubious packages I suppose and make room for more. Maybe I should also write the year on the label lol

Hadn't noticed that, Ann, but I'm sure I've got stuff in my freezer that's more than 2 years old lol! Can't go and check because I've just varnished my kitchen floor (3rd coat - sick of it!)

Does anyone else wish that use by dates had a year on them? When I look through my freezer (and I know it should be better organised but it isn't Lol!) I see something with 10 May on it I have no idea whether that is this year or last year.
