Perhaps she just preferred the name Gladys.
One of my ancestors was called Meg in the census records, which i assumed was the shortened name for Margaret. Her name was actually Gladys!
Another was called Alice but her name was actually Ellen!
My Mum was never called by her real name, simply because she didn't like the name she was born with.
I could go on and on...........PH. x

hi all,

looking for advice, can anyone please tell me if the female name of gladys was ever reffered to as doreen ??? i know that sounds mad but my grandfather was a john but he was know as jack like it appears were so many others ,also the name peggy was used instead of margaret why i dont know. my reason for asking is that i have a cert with the name gladys and i was not expecting to see that i hoped to see doreen can anyone shed any light for me ?
