June 6 1907

At Newcastle-on-Tyne recently Thomas Rutter, from the mining village of Mickley, Northumberland, was remanded on a charge of attempting to take his life, he laid his head on the railway metals at Scotswood in front of a locomotive, but the train was a slow one, and instead of decapitating him the wheel knocked his head off the line and inflicted three wounds, not of a serious character. The bench said he was a lucky man.
