Michael,

Is the chocolate teapot your GP or a rheumatologist?

If the former, ask to be referred to a rheumatologist.
If the latter, are you able to ask for a review on your meds?
Maybe they could reduce the dose?

The main point is - has it brought your RA under control?

I've pm'd you :-)

Hi Michael

How long have you been taking it and what dosage?

I wish I could remember exactly how long it took me to settle on it but it's an experience I was happy to forget other than how I felt. I'm certain it was a few weeks so do give yourself time as it is regarded as the best med for RA.

Mine is a 'miniscule' dose so perhaps the higher the dose the longer it takes for your system to adjust to the 'invasion'.

Do you go to a rheumatolgy clinic at your local hospital? If so, maybe you could give the specialist nurse a call?

I forgot to say that I take 5mgs of folic acid two days after my MTX.

Hi Emma,
How are you?
Sorry, I've been quite busy so missed the news of your new knee. I trust it is up and 'running'? :-D

Hi Michael,

I would not recommend you come of meds without consulting
your rheumatologist, maybe your GP can help out with symptoms.

Hi Michael,

Am also on Methotrexate for 8years. Same effects as Island regards
feeling nauseous, take one Folic acid tab to counteract this, have however
developed a cough for about a year now, apparently this is a side affect.
Working towards reducing meds once I get my second knee replacement.

Hi Michael,
I do, 7.5 mg a week for 6 years.
For the first few weeks I felt really rough, as if I'd swallowed the contents of a dustbin lorry on a hot day, really yukky and nauseous. This would ease off in time for the next dose. It does take some getting used to as it is after all, a toxic substance.
My system got used to it after a few weeks and I have not felt nauseous with it since. I do sometimes get a sore tongue though.
All said, I'm fine now :-D
I'm sero-positive with mild RA.
