Trade Union boss is reported to have had a 3 hour lunch with friends yesterday, the bill for which came to over £600 - I assume this will be put down to expenses - paid for by his members.

On £90,000 pa he could hardly be expected to pay for this out of his own pocket. What is wrong with a pub lunch?

You never see a hard up union boss lol.

Easy to spend someone elses money ....and politicians are (mostly) the same !

What on earth did they have for lunch to cost that.???

I suggest next time sandwiches from Asda and a Bottle of soft drink...same as their *brothers* will be having for theirs no doubt ! x

If I were a member of a union whose hierarchy used my subs to go out on a jolly to celebrate someone's birthday..I doubt I would be very impressed...however, I take your point, I'm not a member of a union, nor would I ever wish to be one...but still feel that on the wages they earn they could've paid out of their own pocket.

I wonder if John from packing asked the union to pay for Dave's birthday drink out of the same pot whether he'd have any success lolololol

As for the royal family..I think they're great value for the 62p a year each person in this country pays for them...what they bring in vastly outweighs what they cost imho x

I think PigletsPal is right, it is for the union members to say,

what about the bankers having expensed lunches on the money we taxpayers gave to bail them out ?? ......... or the money they spent on lunches ............ so we had to bail them out ..........

Well the money he is using could well have come from me as my OH used to work for TFL and (much to my disgust) was a member of the RMT lol. However. That's by the by.

We all have a vested interest in the workings of the RMT though due to the fact that public funds pay out hundreds of thousands of pounds to the RMT for TFL staff to carry out their union activities every year...which I strongly disagree with..x

A union spokesman said last night: "Bob Crow was on a private day out. We can confirm the bill was not paid by the union."

I'm sure that the Queen (84 years old) and Prince Phillip (90 years old) are over the moon with all that luxury to return to after another day's work.

Perhaps some of the minor royals can be criticised for living off the taxpayers but don't lump them all together.

As a previous long term member of a Union, I think it is wrong for the leaders to spend vast sums of money even if it was a celebration lunch paid for by others. They represent a lot of people (not all) who are on minumum wages who can hardly afford to pay their bills never mind a lunch out.

I think however this is just one of the many things wrong with our leaders today they lose touch with the reality of the lives of the people they represent.

I have no problems at all paying taxes towards the Royal Family I actually thought it was more than 62p I am not bothered as I believe that they generate alot of income for this country as well, and I am rather proud of our Royal family and their heritage......however the rest I am right with you PP, I have voted to strike as I am protecting my pension, up untill acouple of years ago, I didnt think the unions had any clout in this coutnry any longer however I do still think they do..... I think it was a shame no one went on strike when Gordon Brown raided the pension pots of those who didn't work in the public sector.

My Dad's pension is worth diddly now because of him !!! Grrrrrrrrrr
