My hubby has just had part of his ear removed through this.
Seems to be very common in men who drive with their windows open,as it is usualy in the right ear
He has to go back next month to see if any more needs taking off
Men and ladies beware in the summer months

Also known as rodent ulcer

From netdoctor
Basal cell carcinoma

The first warning signs may be small lumps, scar-like changes, or eczema-like changes on the skin. The first sign can also be a small sore with raised borders. It is a slow-growing cancer and it never spreads to other parts of the body.

Strangely one of mine was on a part of my body which had not been exposed to the sun.

I did have another suspicious place that the dermatologist thought was going to develop into one and it was treated with a cream which was apparently like a mild chemotherapy, that one disappeared without an op.

basel cell carcinoma is skin cancer, its a common skin cancer usually on the face or neck ,caused by to much direct sunlight, its very slow growing and does not spread anywhere else, but of course there are exceptions.it can look very much like eczema in the early stages.bestwishes.x :-)

I did read somewhere that one of the expert consultants thought the word carcinoma should actually be removed as it is actually not cancer.

Helen, if it worries you by all means start a support group. I don't think there is anything to worry about, they remove them to make certain they are not actually malignant. Did you spend a lot of time in the sun when younger? that seems to have a bearing on it.

I had a fairly large one removed from my back 5 years ago and had no problems. Took a week off work while stitches were knitting and had check ups every 3 months for a year just to be sure they had got it all.

Yes I have had two. No problem, had them both removed, one by general because it was bigger and because of its postition and one by local. No after effects other than a sore scar for a while and a check up after 6 months to check the scar. They are not malignant.
