Dear All

Hello

Hope you are keeping well.

A parade of 2,500 military personnel, veterans and cadets has marched down the Royal Mile in Edinburgh to mark UK Armed Forces Day.

The celebrations were attended by the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, Prime Minister David Cameron and First Minister Alex Salmond.

Events in Edinburgh got under way on Friday, with tours of HMS Portland, which is moored in Leith, and an aerial display by the Red Arrows.

The parade was being followed by an afternoon of entertainment and ending with a Beating Retreat and a Typhoon and Tornado flypast from RAF Leuchars and RAF Lossiemouth.

Events in the city began on Friday and included a Red Arrows flypast The Red Arrows display over the Firth of Forth on Friday was their first full performance in the city for 23 years.

Squadron Leader Ben Murphy said being involved in Armed Forces Day was "massively important".

He said: "Most of us have come from operational backgrounds, having served in Afghanistan and Iraq and other theatres.

"For us to be able to come up here and participate in these types of events is a massive honour."

Defence Secretary Liam Fox said: "Armed Forces Day provides a unique opportunity for us all to pay thanks to the men and women who serve this country with such distinction.

"I would especially like to thank the City of Edinburgh for hosting this national event.

Street parties and parades are also taking place throughout the UK.

At the Wimbeldon Tennis Championships, representatives of each serving force were invited as special guests to sit and watch the tournament in the royal box.

Take gentle care all
Very best wishes
xx

Hi Elizabeth

I am keeping well and hope you are too.

Thank you for the information.

My daughter and her friend are off to Nottingham Castle tomorrow. The castle is holding an Armed Forces day and hopefully the weather will be good.

I saw the news of this on tv, David Cameron stood there looking as miserable as sin, but I loved the way William and Kate chatted to the service personnel, bet they would rather have them than Cameron lol

Respect and thanks to all servicemen and women who risk their lives to help make the world a better place

Don't know if it had anything t do with the parade up north yesterday ,but i was sitting in the garden at ten thirty this morning when i heard a familier sound of a heavy aircraft ,with the unmistakable sound of Merlin engines.
Looked up as the noise grew very loud ,and was treated to the sight of City Of Lincoln over the house roof [Lancaster Bomber] flying due south towards Conningsby ,in Lincolnshire ,home of the memorial Flight.
It was nice to see it again ,because i couldn't go to the parade.
Fred.
