As I already have ice cream girls and Book of fires and Light on snow I shall read those. I might also get around to reading the two I suggested as they look so good Distant hours and Times Legacy. Depends if I have time!!

There is a correction, there were 2 votes (thanks Tess, always best to check) for Light on snow so that ties for second place with Happenstance and the book of fires Sorry sorry :-0 <3

I was in the midst off adding to thread last night, when my internet went splat. I've ordered Icecream Girls and Book of Fires from the satelitte library, there was supposed to be copy of Book of Fires in the main library but some sticky fingers has made off with it. Michelle

I wondered if that was the problem Pammy, you have four books to choose from but try and read ice cream girls if you can I think I saw it in T***o this morning for £5.

Have requested Ice cream girls from the library. Hope toget it within the next couple of weeks.
Already had Book of Fire, got the other two from the library today.

Not promising to read them all though.

Just picked up The Ice Cream Girls and White Tiger from the library (sounded interesting) - to discover, to my dismay, that the White Tiger is not in English.......... :((( Or even in any script I recognise!

Oh well.

Helen Lol, doesn't it say what language it is in? I assume you are reading White Tiger as well as the others as it only had one vote. His name sounds Indian or Eastern anyway.

Helen in Kent

Helen in Kent Report 14 Jul 2011 09:57

It probably does say what language it's in......if only I could read it!

(Yes, White Tiger is just an extra - I already have Happenstance.)

I think it's about India so maybe it's in Urdu? I won't be reading that anytime soon!!! Shame, because the story sounded interesting. I must have ordered the wrong one by mistake.

Must have been a mistake made by library staff. I would expect any book I ordered in a library in Englandto be in English. Unless I had specified otherwise.
They should be able to get the correct copy for you. Perhaps somewhere there is your counterpart, who had ordered the book in Urdu (or whatever the script is) and has been handed the one in English.
I can imagine a right pair of tutters!

Urdu script goes right to left. So you can tell if it IS Urdu by the indentation for the margin.
Most other scripts, like English, go left to right.

I am reading Happenstance at the moment. I usually take the list of suggested books with me when I go to the library.
Happenstance was there on the shelf, just waiting for me!

Tess! I would have to pay a lot more attention to have worked that out!

The front cover is in English but the rest of it isn't...... can't wait to take it back to the library! The staff there are usually very helpful.

My stepmother gave me Happenstance years ago. I may even have suggested it on GReaders ages ago. The book did give me an interest in quilt-making , which as yet I haven't begun making. Although I did love the film "How to Make an American Quilt" with, I think, Winona Ryder and Maya Angelou in it.

Strange how we often pick books that others have suggested or have.
When Ann originally suggested Ice Cream Girls ... I immediately thought oh good I want to read that anyway.

Helen if the book is in Urdu ... might be easier to get the Bollywood movie of it... you could master a new language. When I had the secondhand bookshop a young chap (son of the Indian Restaurant owner along the road) came in singing and I asked if it was Hindi but no it was Punjabi... He didn't speak Punjabi but would sing their songs.
