close the door to the room its in on a night, as thats when they wake,

also if its a cage with the door on the top place somthing heavy on it,

i know this sounds silly make sure you shut the door after feeding, so many times iv forgot and mine have got out years ago lol

but to be honest if the cats wants to get it, it will manage it, and if the hamster escapes, which they do often ya kinda stuck

but good luck :-D

I have two dogs and mine survived getting out of his cage. He was already called Houdini before that escape

You will probably hear the hamster at night if it has a wheel to exercise on

Thanks for that I wouldn't have thought to put something on top

I was given a hamster from my best pal at school when she went off to Australia .She really loved it and it broke her heart to leave him .Well one night he was sitting on my lap and the next minute he had vanished .We never did find him and I hadn't the nerve to tell her .I refused to speak to my dad for weeks as he refused to cut open the skirting boards to check if he was there .We lived in a flat at the top of a building so he couldn't have got outside !!!!

Next 2 weeks are going to be hell .Just pray Theadore survives !!!!!

Mine lived under the floorboards for days.

Saw a nose peep up by the radiator pipes in the bathroom. Took the floorboards up and no trace. Eventually heard a noise in my bedroom and there he was behind the bedside cabinet. No idea how he got there or managed to avoid the dogs.

we also had one that went missing, 6 weeks later next door knocked and asked if the hamster he found was our, benny was in his bath! lol,

jst put somthing infront of the door, and try and keep the cat out the same room while ur not around,

my friends hamster sadly didnt survive last month, when it got out and her staffy played with it :-S

STRAY tell them about when you minded one for some body
no let me pmsl twice
Stray was minding a hamster Valentine for a family member
and one morning a couple of days before ther owners return
found it stuck in its tubes on its back with all four legs in the air
no sign of breathing stiff as a board
Stray was upset panicing how would she tell them it was dead

so we seperated the tubes and pushed it out with a stick
gave it a good rub and warmed it up
only to find it was hybernating

SO ALL WAS WELL IN THE END
and Valentine went safely home to its owner

All I can say is GOOD LUCK lol

Reminds me of when the kids were young, and my son had to take his turn to bring the class hamster home for the weekend.

They thought it had escaped and hunted for hours until they discoved it asleep in the cage covered with its bedding. I didn't get out of bed til they found it.

I now handle my g.sons one no bother. They had a cat when they had their first hamster, and it never bothered about it, but they got a puppy and it tried to get it. The puppy is now in a new home!!!!

Keep the hamster and its cage in one of your bedrooms and make that room out of bounds for the car who can have the run of the rest of the house,

Stray's experience reminds me of a friend's hamster years ago.
We had been out all day and returned mid afternoon to find the hamster apparently 'dead'. She was upset and started to stroke it cupped in her hands, then felt it twitch. It gradually moved a bit more and eventually revived and went on living for many more months. They can apparently go into a state of semi-hibernation if it's chilly.

If you are looking after a hamster, remember not to put the cage near any curtains or any other hanging material. A friend's youngster lost part of his dressing gown that way !

Two things that make me shudder rodents and eye injuries. My daughter was looking after a hamster for a friend in the friend's home when one day she found that the hamster's eye had popped.

I at first refused to take it to the vet but took a hold of myself and did so - 11 miles with a rodent in the car. He had to have an op on his eye and had to convalesce at my house. Vet advised we move his steps to his wheel but he still managed to get up there. I got to love him although I couldn't pick him up.

As we had a dog we put hammy in the spare room with a big notice on the door to remind us he was there.

All worked out well £20 pounds spent for the vet and little 10 year old got his hamster back.

id love a hamster but i no stray my cat would hate it, she doesnt like my tortious, or mams chinchillas

and she brings me far to many dead mice so a hammy wouldnt stand a chance :(

Anokavid

That made me laugh

After my 2 old cats died my son pleaded for a kitten .I searched every where and eventually found a notice in a vets .We went down to the FARM !!! and there were 3 .They are all boys she told me . I wanted to take 2 but my son said mummy how can we leave one on it's own so you know the rest
3 kittens later I found 2 were VERY fond of 1
Yes I had 2 males and 1 female cost me a fortune to have them all dressed plus coming from a farm none of them were litter trained !!!
