I am currently paying £16 per month for my broadband, with no frills. My telephone calls are straight b- landline as I had trouble switching back once before.

Can anyone recommend a good ISP that is cheaper, reliable, doesn't tie your phone calls, and has a UK call line.

I need to economise a bit, and really only use it for browsing on here in the evenings.

I have tried googling compare broadbands, but I prefer personal recommendations.

I use BT just because the link doesn't drop. Unlimited usage, free landline calls 24/7 (up to an hour, then hang up and ring back). A second number over broadband (you do pay for outgoing).

Total package £40.00 inc. VAT.

Sue

Edit: BIL has free calls 7 pm to 8 am (I think) plenty of browsing time for £16.00 p.m. That is BT too

I am with BT who offer Broadband and anytime phone calls for £16.00 + £13.00 line rental.

Free Home Hub for broadband connection and first three months free.

I've had no problems since moving over from Virgin four months ago
............ except for trying to encourage Virgin's Indian call center that I was indeed with BT now and that they should stop charging me, even perhaps a refund. :-S :-D

Before this I was paying Virgin £18.50 a month as well as BT line rental and phone charges. I also was using an eight year old Virgin modem which was never upgraded................

Swapped providers 3rd March and finally got Virgin to stop charging me at the end of May.

I will be getting a refund by cheque in 45 days from end of my (non existant) contract :-0 :-0 :-S :-( :-( :-(

Talktalk - 24 hr broadband and free 24 hr calls in UK beginning 01 or 02. Knock off after 59 minutes and redial. About £23 per month and kept our original BT number.

Kempina, is that using broadband from your mobile or the landline? I'm not very proficient on the mobile.

Chris, I'll take a look at this - it sounds reasonable.

I was paying £16 a month for bt broadband, so I rung up and said I was going to switch to sky as it was cheaper ( £7.50 per month for unlimited downloads ) Bt immediately offered to reduce my bill to £7.90 per month the lowest they could go. I accepted and told my friends who also had their bills reduced

Thanks for your help everyone.

I have talked to talktalk but wasn't sure it was right for me. will look again.

My broadband charge is separate to our 'domestic' charge but that is becaue I am the only one who uses the computer. Perhaps I should try for a discount. as I don't use it very much.

Did BT give in without a fight or was it difficult to get the discount.?

There used to be 'pay as you go' with BT some years back.

I was with Talk Talk, but got fed up having bother.
I'm now with BT, line rental, broadband and free 59min call, free limited 0845 for £24 per month.

Talk Talk no need to ring off after an hour, and you keep your BT number.

Further to my reply regarding getting Bt broadband costs reduced, My landline is with Bt but separate. When I rang and said I wanted my MAC number so I could go to Sky I was immediately put through to another department where a very nice young man asked why I wanted to leave. I said the cost was too high and I could get it free with my Sky t.v pack although I would want the downloads so would pay £7.50. He not only reduced my broadband to £7.90 a month he also reduced my phone rental by half. So I would advise everybody to try this, there was no hassle and they were only too happy to keep my account. Pleeease do not ask me what a MAC number is I don't know, a open reach van driver told me to ask for it.
