Poor lad, I feel angry with my family, and his lot too

His father and stepmother in Malta never bother, his half brother who is ten years and 4 days younger might send a fb message but wouldn't you think they would at least send a card as the birthdays are so close! His Dad used to make an effort till he married the selfish woman who stopped any contact till we went to visit four years back and my son being an adult then, made contact himself.

The Maltese ones in Essex hardly ever remember even tho I religiously send all the cousins and his aunt and uncle cards, and my own brothers who I rarely see or hear from (I gave up trying long ago) well, both rich as heck and only one sent a card, and that's cos I sent my nephew a card in June, there is exactly a month between the two of them. Mum and Dad's only grandchildren both boys, born a month apart, both Saturday's children which belies the old saying as my nephew works for his dad and hasn't done a hard day's work in his life!

At least his aunt got the address right this year and sent the card to him and not via me!

Thanks Barbra and ChAoTic, I feel all nostalgic remembering my first morning as a Mum at last.

ChAoTic, hope you have some luck soon, it's demoralising to keep trying for a job and finding so many people applying, I think. I was so lucky that when I was working there were always jobs available, chopped and changed when I wanted/needed to and had about twenty different jobs in my working lifetime, all changed cos I was bored or wanted more money and I always got a bigger salary as I changed and gained experience etc.

Good luck with the job search too, I'm in the same situation too so I know how it feels.

My lovely lad is 29 today. Hard to believe it's so long since I was giving birth. Sometimes I wonder where the years have gone.

It will be the first time I haven't seen him on his birthday but I spent a few hours with him yesterday afternoon and left his pressies and cards at his flat. We went and had a bite to eat together and then he went off to take some pics of the Lord Mayor's Procession floats and meet his current girlfriend and other friends. If he has some time alone today, he said he will call me and we can maybe meet up but I hope he can have more fun with his friends and girlfriend. Such a shame he is unsure about the relationship, she has a little boy of 2 and he is not happy about taking on another man's child again. He went through it all with his last steady girlfriend and was with her for five years so still sees the lad for an evening or afternoon as he was a big part of his life. So far altho they have been seeing each other for a few months, they have decided not to let the little boy get to know my son until they are sure about the long term possibilities of their relationship. She is only 23 and a nice girl, I have met her twice but I guess it will all work out eventually. (The little lad's Dad went off and married someone else fairly soon after his birth and has another child now, but has the little lad several times a week and at weekends so his Mummy gets lot of free time)

My lad is very caring and trying hard not to let the girl get too involved without understanding the full picture as he doesn't want to hurt her but is unsure about his long term feelings.

He has been out of work for several weeks now and trying hard to find a new job, altho work is hard to find in Norwich. He has done some voluntary work with a cycling proficiency group at various schools but now with those finished he hasn't much else. He did have a little windfall recently so bought himself a good camera and is trying his hand at improving his photography in case he can make some money that way. He also won some tickets to Knebworth and managed to sell those on ebay for about half the value so had a day out to the venue to pass the tickets on ( he had to present a voucher at the gate to pick them up first) and then he did some photography round the venue gate , in Stevenage and Knebworth, and stopped in Cambridge when he had to change trains and did some photography there too, as well as at our lovely Norwich Cathedral. He's also been helping his elderly neighbour and is now helping his friend do the garden of his newly rented house so keeping busy.

I just hope he finds a fulfilling job soon and can make up his mind about the young lady. or find a new girlfriend with no ties and similar ambitions to him.

Watch out Rose cos before you blink too often your D. will be the same age! It's scary, and worse still, in two weeks and a day I will be another year older too!
