looking out for a bargain for number 2 daughter and boyfriend´s holiday - usually cheap places:- A Greek island is their favourite at the moment followed by turkey. Has anyone been to Greece since the troubles ? would you send your daughter there?

There was a travel journalist on the TV yesterday ( or perhaps the day before) who was seeming to imply that the Greek holiday destinations were fine, certainly as far as Civil Unrest is concerned. But personally, I wouldn't go to Athens just in case I got caught up in any demonstrations.

Although not quite as cheap as the mainland, the islands are less likely to inconvenience the tourist - they need our money.

(been trying to decide whether to go 'abroad' or stay in the UK, hence the research)

Although Turkey may be fine, I don't have a good 'feel' about it, possibly as we aren't after a beach holiday. :-)

Yes, that's it - I feel a bit edgy about Turkey at the moment as well.
Thinking that civil unrest probably not so likely on the islands. When I next go to the charity shop I will look out for one of those tourist books about the islands.

PS. Who are the large tour operators in the uk - I can remember Thomas cook and thompsons, are there any others to check out.

We were speaking to somebody just returned from Turkey who had been there before she said it was spoilt because it had become a cheap destination for the Russians and they were very rude to the staff and others.
