It is not just women who are narcissistic. I had wondered if it was something to do with post natal depression myself when I was trying to find an explanation.

I know very little about narcissism, but hear the pain so many have expressed here. I do have a question though, many of the cases of children being murdered by their mother, have occurred when the mother has post-partum depression. Is it possible that narcissism is a side effect of PPD? As I said I know little or nothing about it, but wonder if it is an entity separate from PPD or do they tend to co-exist?
I cannot imagine the difficult childhood a child must experience in this type of situation. I can onl,y applaud those who have opened up and thus helped others.

Just read it -as you said it is on so many sites. Says it all or most of it.

The article I mean is the one that starts 'Everything she does is deniable'.

I don't know who wrote it but they deserve a sainthood at the very lest. It seems to move around different sites so the way to find it is to Google the first few words I have given you.

Sharron I am not arguing with you at all ..and I was going to ask which article you had read, but I since have read several. I had got dissalosioned erm fed up lol

I stand by what I said earlier, but will add that I don't how the courts have defined a narcissistic tendency.

I will re-read the definition of a narcissis mother ..but she was just out for revenge on her ex and that takes away the mother label.

Sharron

Sharron Report 12 Jul 2011 20:48

But, I think, being narcissistic, her desire for revenge entirely over-rode her concern for the feelings of her children. They lost their identities in her mind. Revenge is very dear to the heart of the narcissist.

Sorry Uzzi. I wasn't arguing with you. I really did wonder if you had seen the article. I was going tell you how to access it.

Haven't got my argumentative head on at all today.

Sharron I saw the article when it was 1st printed and yes I read that she put them in the boot of the car with the idea of blaming her ex .... That is not a narcissist mother that is a revenful ex who should never have been a mother. She didn't do it to spite her ex by depriving him of them she did it to blame him for their deaths.

But No I haven't over read into it so I may be missing something.

Uzzi - we all had it hard but then we knew nothing else.

Have you read the article Uzzi?

UzziAndHerDogs

UzziAndHerDogs Report 12 Jul 2011 19:49

Sharron that is so very true. I think some on my Mother thread described very well but even so it's hard for others to understand.

Sharron

Sharron Report 12 Jul 2011 19:21

When you live it it is very hard to describe it to anybody who has not.

UzziAndHerDogs Report 12 Jul 2011 19:21

The trouble now with a diagnosis is that people will be able to be "classed" as it when they are not, maybe they are just "evil" or even depressed .. It's going to be one of those conditions where the boundries are rather vague. Some will never be like others, many would never dream of murdering their children.
To me a narcissist mother needs her children, so to murder them to revenge on her partner is something totally different from what I thought.

The UP side to it is that a lot of people will now realise that they are not alone and there is help out there to come to terms with the adulthood of being brought up by one. :-)

Chris you had it so hard.

Gwyn like you I can not understand physically hurting a child to retaliate.. one of the reasons my Dad put up with my mother for years was because he knew she would take us away if he left her. He would never have seen us again..that wouldn't have been done to hurt us but him and she wouldn't have understood the hurt she caused us ...She never did understand it.!

ChrisofWessex

ChrisofWessex Report 12 Jul 2011 17:50

I thought that too Sharron as I never knew of the condition until we children all got together on GR

Gwyn in Kent Report 12 Jul 2011 17:11

I noticed that mention Sharron.

I can never understand mothers who hurt their children to get back at a partner.

Until I read the thread on GR, I was unaware how awful it must be to live with such a person, as I was blessed with a very happy childhood.

Reading in the paper today of the reported trial of the woman who allegedly murdered her two children to take revenge upon their father, her ex-partner, it is reported that she has been diagnosed as having narcissistic personality disorder.

Of course I am not pleased that the poor children were murdered, nor that they should ever have been born to a narcissistic mother but I am delighted that the condition has been mentioned. Maybe this will make people aware of the misery that the families of narcissists can endure.
