mis-transcribed surname- beat this

my great grandfathers surname was Tredgold, quite simple, not
in 1851 he was Toredgate
1861 Tredgolds
1871 Freggolf
1881 Fredgold
1891 Tredgold - hurray correct
1901 can't find

and it was only thats to a very clever and helpful member of genes i found the ones starting with f
no names to spare her blushes

On one census around Midhurst I found a family called something like Tubbergdun. Now that is not a local name but Stubbington is and anybody can get a cold.
