I always find it amazing,no horrifying, that the Beatle first came to fame nearly fifty years ago and their music is still selling now.

In the early sixties I can honestly say that I had no music from the early twentieth century in my posession. No Billy Cotton or even Harry Lauder.

He is a very clever man isnt he. Its something he always wanted to do but with his music career he only recently got around to it.

Rose, I think - I'm afraid - that it's an age thing :)

Phil Collins..."For one night only" was on Friday night singing Motown hits. I missed the beginning and so i watched it again last night.
It showed video clips of him growing up and he was taken back to some of his old haunt's including Soho, which was really quite moving.
Footage was shown of Soho in the 60s and it was certainly the place to be back then.
He was brilliant and so was the band and backing singers.
Well worth catching up on itv player if you like that sort of thing.

Prepare to groove!

The Kinks and The Who, incredible songwriting :-D and of course the Stones.

I quite often catch songs from the 60's being played during the 'highlights' of sporting games. Yesterday after the Warrington match it was the Faces 'all or nothing'. Homes under the Hammer use a few too. At least the songs from that era had lyrics that you could understand.

From those around today, I think most will just be played by ardent fans.

I know what you mean Rose, the real timeless pop classics. Sadly there are few around these days, nothing to do with age. I like a lot of the stuff that is around today, but I can't see them sounding anything but 'old and outdated' in 30 years time. That cannot be said about Queen, Beatles, The Who, The Stones, or even going back further, the likes of Buddy Holly, and Elvis.

Talent like that either doesn't exist these days, or it's been commercialised out of them. (or they are overshadowed by angry rappers! grrrr)

Sorry Rose but I think it is an age thing ;-) as I well remember when I played Elvis on the 'gramophone' lol my dear Dad telling me " he's rubbish and not as good as from my era, Bing Crosby will still be remembered long after Elvis he won't last"...

I love Queens music, sadly never saw them live when Freddy was around.

We did have the pleasure of seeing Brian May and Roger Taylor play together at the Princes Trust consert at the Albert Hall last November.
Along side the line up were other old timers from my youth including Phill Collins, Alison Moyet, Jules Holland and his band (who i saw play earlier last year, and if anyone gets the chance go and see him , he was brilliant )
Also in TPT line up were Jamie Culum, Midge Ure, Paloma Faith and Status Quo.

I think there are those who will keep going for years. Jules Holland went from being in Squeeze, who I really liked, to being a presenter on the Tube with Paula Yates and a host of other unconventional people and groups in the early 80s.
He now still is the champion of new music on his shows and performs in sell out tours.

I also like Elvis who my Mum was a fan off and would give anything to see the Stones who were touring since I was a baby!

There are good bands around now, but seem to get bypassed for the stuff they play on certain radio stations, a lot of which sound like nursery rhymes to me :-D
