My daughter is going out tomorrow and is taking my 10 month old grandson.She is going in a 7 seater car.The journey is roughly 2 hours so he has to be fed in car.She has been told he will be occupying one of the 2 back seats facing the back door.She is not happy that he is facing the back door.She feels she dont want to go now? Annie

I would be insisting he had a middle seat.But then thats me I like the little ones inthe middle of a car.

Presumably they will be stopping the car to actually feed him- or will he be taking part of the journey unrestrained? I wouldnt have thought that a car specifically designed to have 3 rows of seats would place the people in the rear in any more a dangerous/vunerable position than any other seat.

if a baby is in a car seat on the front passenger seat and there is a side imapct , why is he any less vunerable than in the back row, should impact have occured there?

The idea of the child seat ,strapped to the back of the rear of the seat ,is one of safety,seeing as most toddlers injured in a car accident are from front end shunts.
In this case ,the toddler has the seat back as protection,and cannot be catapulted through the windscreen and it sounds to me as if the driver of the vehicle has done the right thing,giving your grandson the best protection available.
The child ,at that age ,has to be in the back anyway,travelling in a front seat facing the windscreen is illegal and very dangerous.Fred. :-(

It is only illegal to carry a child in a rear-facing child seat in the front, which is protected by an active frontal airbag.
