Yesterday afternoon I saw a lady gathering blackberries from a hedgerow.

I'll keep my eye on my favourite bushes to watch for them ripening.

This morning I noticed a few elderberries starting to change colour too.

Yes, we saw people gathering blackberries today. Not from where I would get them though right by a very bust main road where traffic queues at traffic lights.

Oh no,not blackberry time again eek!!!!!!!

The old man and his mate will be off out there picking before we know where we are and I am not sure I have even used all of last years yet.

I have found a recipe for haw jelly so they can gather some of those as well, and the rosehips, damsons, bullaces and anything else they can find.

Make a change from dung!

Sharron I did think of your father when I saw them and remembered your fun threads from previous years.

I'm with Nicky. I haven't had a chance to enjoy summer yet!

We were only saying the other day that they will have to be careful if they take two carrier bags with them. Don't want to get the dung and blackberries mixed up.

Some of my jam tastes like it may already have been through a horse already but you don't want brambles on your compost heap do you!

The local news on TV showed them picking Kentish apples.
It's usually a September start and this is the earliest crop for 30 years.

After that i`m not here till middle of August ....off to Zante on Friday, our 1st holiday for 4 years ....can`t wait, temp out there around 30 to 35 degrees....

my apple tree is laden and wont be long to picking them so they are early and summer fruits were early.

Zo has come home covered in blackberry juice today where they have been picking them, not a good look on white socks.

Nickydownsouth

Nickydownsouth Report 25 Jul 2011 23:02

I don`t envy you Dawn trying to get Blackberry juice out of white socks....

You could always just leave it on there...put them on a hot wash and turn em pink!!
