My degree and my Masters were both studied with the OU whilst I was working full time. My degree took 6 years (studying 60 credits per year) as opposed to 3 years at a "normal" uni. My Masters took 3 years (as opposed to 1 year if I had been studying full time at uni).

I feel it has been very beneficial to me. I was a secretary but, once I had my degree, was able to then go on to study for my PGCE and I am now a Lecturer at a local FE college teaching Literacy and Numeracy.

I would say go for it - the OU is great .

Thanks craftingcockney, I will let my neighbour know.

She works in a School so I think that teaching is something she may want to progress to

My niece did an ou course to become a school mistress. It certainly paid off for her as she is now paid higher than the head teacher who is not so qualified. I think it took four years but I suppose it depends on what you study.

I was just having a chat with my neighbour who is thinking of taking a degree now her children are a bit older.

She has looked at the local Uni but was also wondering about the Open University.

Has any one here done an O.U drgree or know anyone who has done one?

Also how long did it take and was it useful job wise.

Many thanks in advance, I am just off to do some on line study but will be back later :-)
