We do have vast open 'parks' in Britain - the Yorkshore Moors, New Forest etc.
There are gorse fires on the New Forest every year - they are set alight by the Forestry Commission to renew the vegetation!!!

Strange 'they' fail to mention the toxins in recycled cardboard - used for cereal packets, which leeches through the bag the cereal is in.

Neither do 'they' mention the toxins that leak into the water in plastic bottles!! And the fact that too much water is bad for you - can even kill you - is conveniently forgotten too!!

As for mobile phones- amazing that they are no longer a danger to a man's fertility if stored in the front trouser pocket, and they seemingly don't give off radiation any more - or we're not told about it- it's certainly no longer a warning put in with the phones.

The World health Organsation in May this year brought out a report about this. They DO give off dangerous amounts of radiation. But, apparently , it's okay. It was in the papers for one day, then forgotten.

So, if I gave up smoking, I'd be 'sensible'.
If I started drinking the recommended amount of water (1.8 litres) every day, I'd be healthy.
No, I'd be dead.

The wrong word is WATER. 1.8 litres is the recommended amount of LIQUID - and much of that comes from food anyway.
Too much water depletes the minerals in your body and can, at it's worst, kill you.
When I had to visit a nephrologist(kidney specialist) when it was discovered at 52, that I only had one kidney, I had to admit I never drank water, but drank copious amounts of tea - and red wine.
'Brilliant' she said'That's why your kidney (and liver & spleen) are so healthy!! Lots of minerals in tea and red wine - the red is better than white!!!!

no rocky.they are trying to ban smoking in cars for everyone in wales, they have already done it for company carsand lorries and now they want to ban it in cars.i do not agree with smoking in the presence of children and never have, and yes i choose to smoke, just like you choose to walk outside your front door and inhale carbon monoxide fumes from passing cars.
all im saying is that like everything smoking health and safety rules have gone mad.x

RockyMountainShy

RockyMountainShy Report 8 Aug 2011 21:33

It is only banned in your cars if children are present. :-P <3 and you have do be 50 ft away from any door if you want to smoke, they tried having smoking areas but it don't work.

Last year some idiot was running around just behind the fire fighters setting fires. He was too slow getting away and they caught him at it. :-D

Yes, I'm a non-smoker, but my Mum smoked for a short while, my Dad smoked a pipe, my grandparents smoked ............ its bad for you but it is your health and life, and as long as you don't blow the smoke in my face or make me try it I DON'T CARE

Right on most of our forest fire fighter are in Ontario helping them. :-D

yes i understand about banning smoking in national parks in the likes of america and aus.but we dont have forest fires in wales what we do have a lot is gorse fires, but they have usually been set alight by some teenage prat for a laugh. i also agree with the ban for resturants, pubs and of course hospitals, but banning smoking in hospital carparks, parks and your own car is getting a little out of hand and rather silly. :-D

The areas of parks have been mentioned on the news - it would be around the children's play area, which does make sense. Assuming the play areas with their special flooring are fenced off (as they often are to keep out dogs), then smoking ought to be permitted elsewhere in the park.

RMS - Although the UK does have National Parks, such as the natural/undeveloped/rugged areas in N America, the parks referred to here are the manicured lawn open spaces in towns and cities - not really the same thing.

If i stop smoking i may live to be 100 years old and probably spend years needing loads of medication and carers that means that apart from the 35 years of pension and other benefits i will get i was wondering how much extra i will cost future tax payers,
I no i have worked and payed taxes all my life including the massive amount of tax on the fags i buy,
So the question is do i stop smoking and reach 100yrs or keep smoking and died in my late 50's or early 60's thus saving the tax payer loads a money.

what a shame if they did, I can not believe that we just rolled over and let this no smoking bans happen, ok non smokers are not now flocking to pubs so they can now enjoy their pints in a smoke free blah blah, nope they didnt nor do because as most of us can see that most pubs have closed down, look lovely broaded up don't they? Not to mention the poeple that have lost their jobs on a wider scale. We have an area at working to smoke, outside at the back of the building, and even tried to stop that because someone compalined that they have to walk past it to get to their car....like Maggie I went on about the polution their big fat car made if she was that health conscious let her jog to work ;-)

Yes 'they' are considered about your health since you don't seem concerned, but I think their secondary concern is setting the park on fire

Most of the forest fires about here are set by humans. sparks from campfire(even though their banned) cigarettes (even though their banned) trash fires in your backyard (even though their banned) etc.

HHHMMMMMMM looks like there is a pattern there :-0

The guy in the pub who liked to tell me that vehicles were much more polluting was always pleased to hav e a lift home in mine. He never took me home on his fag. Nor.indeed/.did an emergency cigarette take him to hospital,

It would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad!!!
At work, we have no 'designated' area to smoke, so, as we work above a (no-smoking ) multi-story car park, we smoke at the edge of it. 2 weeks ago, where we shelter from the rain - some plank put a huge no smoking sign!!!!
I smoke, but don't drive, so my excuse is 'this is my pollution to the world'.

Has anyone else noticed that the diseases previously attributed to smoking are now attributed to being overweight?

Personally, I think they should ban the stuff a lot of people use to light barbeques - it's horrendous and can be smelt at least 100 yards away!!!
Whatever happened to newspaper and kindling?

Perhaps they feel that the global warming can go on the back burner ........... maybe its the fag induced forest fires that they can do without right now.

Suzanne

Suzanne Report 6 Aug 2011 23:38

yes chris ,why ban smoking in a hospital car park , when 1000 carsaday are driving and parking in hospital car parks, and spewing tonns of carbon monoxide it to the air, what difference does a sly fag at lunch time do to make it worse?everyone is putting there lives at risk every time they walk though thier front door.x :-D

ChrisofWessex

ChrisofWessex Report 6 Aug 2011 22:48

Personnally I wonder at the brains of joggers who happily jog along side of cars and lorries all spewing out carbon - all for the good of their health!

Suzanne Report 6 Aug 2011 22:25

ivejust heard on the news, that i think it was america, are thinking of banning smoking in parks. how stupid is that?. my health trust has had a ban on smoking in car parks at hospitals since 2009,they choose to ignore the fact that 1000 cars per day are driving into the hospital grounds throwing out tonnes of carbon monoxide hourly, what difference would smoking a fag do compared to that, the worlds gone mad.x
