My friend was adopted when he was 7. He was trying to look up his birth record but cant find it.

Does anyone know if these details get blocked due to his adoption?

Recently I was helping a lady who was adopted at 4 year old and she had her original birth certificate with her mother's name and her previous name as registered. I cannot say if they do get blocked for any reason but I would think not.
Is your friend definitely sure of the location of birth or if looking on freebmd not all births have been registered. In my own case my name is there but one of my brothers who is 7 years older and born in the same town is not registered at the moment. Hope that might help- jl

His original birth name should be in the birth index but not his adopted name.

Which name is he searching for?

If he is over 18 he would be able to access his adoption file if he goes through social services.
