Yup, you're right Andy's Mum - descendants.

OH inherited a suitcase full of photos when the last of his grandmother's generation died.

He divided them into 3 groups - those where he was sure who the sitter was, those that looked like family but which he couldn't identify and those where he hadn't a clue.

He then spent several days labelling the first group on the back with names, places and dates if known.

I agree with Joy, but I think you mean your descendents will be looking at them! :-) :-)

May I suggest to everyone that it would be fantastic if the name, place and date of birth of the subject(s) of a photograph were written on the reverse side as well as the date/year it was taken?

We have inherited several photographs from our grandparents depicting their relatives. Two of these had names written on the back but of the rest we have only firmly identified two of the people - one of these with the help of a kind person at the Army Museum.

I have contacted a couple of the professional studios where some were taken only to discover that records had been destroyed before or during WW2.

The families concerned would have descended from Wallis, Linge, Doy, Bunting and the places involved would be Essex, London, Norfolk and Durham during the late-1800s and early-1900s.

Please, folks, names and details so your ancestors know whose image they're looking at.

I'm looking for pictures of my ggf's family. He, Charles Vincent Nairne, was born at Ramsgate Kent in 1850. I would like to cross reference a womans picture, unidentified. If any person is researching the Nairne family circa 1850-1900 and has pictures i would be prepared to share pictures if my gf.
Ken.
