Moving around my tree

Well I never!

I have just discovered this evening that I can move around my full family tree using the little 'map' box in the bottom right-hand corner (the one with the tree logo in it). Within this box is a smaller rectangle and I drag that up or down or sideways with my mouse. It takes a few seconds for the tree to respond but it does actually work!

I will be making a note of where key people are on the map, like myself, my great-grandparents etc. :-) :-)

After messing about late last night with compatable view and refresh buttons got it working again but still find it very slow using the arrows on full family view

Contacted Genes and I have a solution!

Downloaded Google Chrome and everything worked perfectly. I can move around the 'Tree' as quickly as before.

You don't have to have google chrome as your homepage but just access it when you want to use GR.
Brilliant.
Many thanks for everyones help

There are also some tips in the FAQ section and some helpful threads around.

By the by Malcolm - I hope you also have your tree elsewhere rather than just on here?

Many members have trees on other sites but also on an offline programme such as FTM - belt and braces job.

I have been adding and subtracting to the new tree with ease - sometimes it's just a case of playing around with the new features - as with any site.

Why??

There are plenty they could read on the suggestions board if they wished.

It is now the weekend so the office I would think is closed until monday

Many thanks for letting me know it wasn't me. I'll just have to turn it off and sit out in this beautiful sun while it lasts. :-)

It's a very offhand way to treat what must be a large and loyal customer base. At first they just introduced the new tree with loads of bugs. This was an irresponsible management decision which they reversed by allowing the old tree to continue.

They were then very uncommunicative until they decided to force the new tree on everyone on August 1st with a peremptory announcement "Take it or leave it" basically. The inference was that the old tree was causing THEM problems so WE had to accept the new one.

Over all this shows poor customer relations and I hope that they are working on some way of speeding up the data handling within the new tree because if not they are going to lose more and more customers as well as credibilty for the BrightSolid organisation as a whole.

Admittedly my internet connection here in Spain is pretty poor, but on the old tree I could get around fine. Now it takes about twenty to thirty seconds to scroll down or up and a minute to ninety seconds to "Load Relations, Check Relations, Dick around with Relations and finally, Display Relations"

I need to be really patient and it is not easy. I'm seriously thinking of transfrreing the tree to another site though i've just renewed on here. 7 pounds a year isnt going to break me, and it's worth it for the Genes Reunited community.

Agree but this seems to be the GR idea of progress

Is anyone else having trouble moving around the new ' family tree'?
I used the old tree for years adding information, moving from person to person with speed.
Now I can't.
If I ever manage to get the full tree (which is not often) it is nearly impossible to move up and down.
Can anyone please help?
Thanks Ann
